Hi Melissa,
We are planning to ask our guests to contribute towards honeymoon if they would like to, we plan on booking our honeymoon with Trailfinders (who are very competitively priced anyway, they put the package together for you and work around exactly what you want) and they do a gift list service for free, guests can buy vouchers online or on the phone.
Their website is https://www.trailfinders.co.uk or maybe .com

Does anyone know a good scheme for travel vouchers, i have had a look at thomas cook..but wondered if anyone had any other ideas?
Thanks
We're also going to ask for contributions towards our honeymoon. I like the idea of the trailfinders website that Sarah mentioned but i think i may book our honeymoon at the last minute and hopefully get a really good deal0 -
Just found this
Hope it helps someone

Im really worried about the asking for money thing for wedding presents. We were thinking about doing the confetti wish list cause weve been living together for 5 years now and dont want a lot of stuff for the house. Were hopefully going to be moving house shortly after the wedding to something a bit bigger so we will have at least one more room to furnish. This is why we thought the wish list would be a good idea cause we could basically explain about the moving thing but when I mentioned it to one of my friends she pretty much turned her nose up at it so now I dont know what to do! Maybe she just did that cause shes gots loads of money and could furnish her house twice over and not miss a penny!

we wereabout the whole " wedding gift" thing
thats not why were getting married lol and so couldnt care whether we got anything or not,we had already been together for 4 yrs.
But we had lots of people asking us / our parents what we would like !!so we did a small giftlist @ argos and gave that to anyone who asked.
But TBH more than half the guests put money / cheque inside a card.
I think people understand more these days that you dont want traditional "house" gifts and so are happy to give money.
You may find the older generation especially dont like to do this
( although i am only 28 and i dont like to give money either !) so maybe request gift vouchers ? that way you can buy things when you move and people know what you are "saving" for
whereas lets be honest money could be used for anythingday to day stuff etc

yes, we were a bit wary of gift lists just because it seemed a bit gredy asking for presents as well as expecting people to pay for accommodation, travel to the wedding etc, but as lots of people pointed out, people like giving gifts. word of warning for anyone thinking of having an online list where the company has items from lots of suppliers. what is not made very clear is that once you have finalised which gifts you are having after the wedding they then order the items from the suppliers, which can take weeks if not months. we are still waiting for some of our gifts to be delivered, and we got married over six months ago!! not only that but there is no guarantee after all that time that we will get what was bought for us as the items may no longer be in stock. after that experience my vote's for department store lists all the way.:A0

You can save too much money! We were both only 24 when we got married and completely skint - had homemade frocks, invitations, everything. Whole thing came to about £2K.
My husband said he didn't need an expensive ring so we got a thin 9ct gold one for £60 from a Ratners-type jeweller. It bent right out of shape and one day he had to cut it off his finger with side-cutters as it was stuck and hurting. After a few ringless years, we treated him to a bespoke ring from a lovely jewellery studio in Scotland - he's worn it with pride ever since!
Young friends of ours are getting married the end of this year and asking for contributions to cost of the wedding in lieu of gifts - I think everyone is glad to support them.0 -
Well I had one of my bridesmaids over today to try on her dress and the matching shoes I got in the sale:

Now then, do you reckon ANYONE will be able to tell that the dress AND the shoes together cost £23.99??0 -
