All the walls will be lined with lining paper so i guess Vinyl is best?

Never heard of vinyl matt or contrast matt. I used matt, Dulux brilliant white matt on ceilings, and the Endurance matt on most walls. But you don't want to use Endurance, too expensive, no point for you. I've been told the Dulux light and space really does make rooms like brighter, but again, too expensive for your purpose.

Personally a house painted entirely in magnolia or similar turns me off immediately. It is completely and utterly boring! I would walk straight in and straight out again. There is no wow factor. I'd rather have a place which needs attention and which I could redecorate in my own choice of colours. I couldn't do that to a brand newly painted place with cream carpets.

You only need to go into any new build property to see what colour builders paint their properties. They've done at lot of research to know that magnolia is the way to go.

That is one reason why I would never buy a new build.

    I tend to agree.

If the house needs redecorating anyway then it might be an idea, but if not I'm not sure it's all worthwhile. The new owners may want their own scheme anyway.

Hmm. I'd paint it white all the way - though I think it depends on the market. I find Magnolia cheap and horrible - quick fix builders' choice.

As for what brand, I can attest that cheapest is, as someone else has said, a false economy. You'll need twice as many coats, and the finish won't be as nice. Dulux are good, but there are lots of other brands that cost around the same (go to a trade building depot to have look) that will do just as well. Make sure you pick the right type of paint. Eggshell gives off a hint of a sheen which is quite nice, and is quite easy to wipe down. Though if this is to sell, you might not care about make the new owners' lives easier that way!

just coming to the end of house renovation but we intend to rent it out. all walls were skimmed then emulsioned in crown trade matt magnolia, apart from the bathroom left that white.
it might look bland to some, but i would imagine whatever colour we chose it would not have been to everyones liking. it looks clean and presentable as it is now.

I'd not want to buy a renovated house (knowing I was paying for that...) only to see that the walls were papered.... as it'd all have to come off. Why not just paint the walls?

Papering looks like you've something to hide.

the reason why magnolia is the chosen colour for renters/house sellers is that it is a safe , easy to live with paint , at the end of the day you will sell your house a lot easier with something easy on the eye, ie magnolia , rather than your lime green and tangerine living room , if the house is in good decorative order then all you would have to do is paint the walls in colours of your own choice ...simples

go for dulux supermatt magnolia, comes in 10 ltr tubs

I couldn't agree more. My walls are a pale creamy brown in all rooms, except the kitchen which is white, and the bathroom which is pale blue. All but one person has said it feels very light and roomy, and they like it. The one dissenter was a builder, who said "beige, urghh". It is boring, but acceptable to most people.

It is livable, and you can get colour from curtains, sofas, etc. I have some nice bold patterned curtains, that liven the rooms.

If you must avoid magnolia, try light colours, very pale blue, very pale green, cream, soothing, calming, light and not aggressive.

I've seen houses with stylish interiors, and they are too individual. Chocolate brown walls, yuck, bold flowery wallpaper, yuck, orange walls, yuck. A good designer could produce something that appeals to a lot of people, but honestly, some of the colour combinations I saw when looking for a house were vile.
