Entire House Renovation to Sell - Which Colour/Paint
Options

toocan

Im looking to sell my house and part of the process is to paint all the rooms in the house. The walls will need lining (1400 weight wickes paper I read is good) with paper before painting and im wondering what the best colour is to paint and which brand of paint would be best to get the job done?
From hearsay people say paint everything magnolia or off white. Any argument against? In terms of paint itself any recommendations of brand (keeping in mind im buying in bulk) to get the job done?

You only need to go into any new build property to see what colour builders paint their properties. They've done at lot of research to know that magnolia is the way to go.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

100% magnolia or an off white. Personally I'd go for a very slightly earthy off white as its a bit more modern but its much of a muchness.
You will never please everyone with colours magnolia is very bland and livable with for a little while and is easy to paint over with any colour. It also looks clean, makes rooms feel bigger and is cheap - a no brainer really.0 -
If you are lining the walls... buy a little extra paint. The lining paper absorbs more paint than previously painted walls.MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0

Any suggestions on which brand OR anyone know which brand of paint homebuilders use?0

10l dulux rich matt - cheapest I've found is in C0stco. It covers very well with two coats on fresh lining paper and on previously brightly coloured walls! I'm renovating my house!
Cheaper paints are often thinner and need more coats to get the same coverage... false economy.MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
Ive found tool station very good for trade paint and price is resonable too for magnolia and white...there are cheaper paints on the market but as the previous poster has said they may be cheaper but you will require more coats to get an even finishfrugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

I can only agree with the previous suggestions. Either magnolia, which I think is a pale yellow, or a very pale brown. The latter is quite popular at the moment. Dulux almond white is very nice in my subjective opinion. Oh, and use matt, it's more forgiving.
Professional decorators tend to use Leyland and Johnstones, presumably because they cover well at a good price.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Thanks whats the difference between vinyl matt and contrast matt? Is Vinyl Matt the one I should be going for?0

Personally I'd go for a non-vinyl paint. Dulux trade emulsion allows the walls to 'breathe' which might be good if you've replastered recently. We inherited vinyl silk in our utility room extension, old original Victorian solid wall on one side and new cavity wall elsewhere. The paint was applied too soon over the new plasterboard so we've been sanding and sanding the bits that are flaking and bubbling off, so annoying.0

All the walls will be lined with lining paper so i guess Vinyl is best?0
