I think it rather telling that a Kleeneze rep posting on a thread about other reps who cannot read a sign on a front door, can themselves not read the forum rules.

I'm sure a conclusion could be drawn from that

Hello there. I'm a Kleeneze distributor and i can understand how it can be a bit annoying to keep getting a catalogue through your door if you didn't ask for it in the first place.

This is however how we go and look for customers.

You just don't get it do you?

To try and ensure our privacy, we go to the trouble of printing off a "no cold callers" notice and stick it in the door and yet you still insist on posting a catalogue, expecting to call and collect it a few days later!

What part of "no cold callers" don't you understand?
    <insult deleted>

We don't want or need door to door salesmen!
We don't want to upset anyone and that way everything stays friendly.
Then don't post the cataloguein the first place.
One of the reasons there is such a churn of distributors is the fact that so many people just bin the catalogues which a lot of new distributors cannot always afford to replace and then quit.
    Need I say more!

Tip to others on here, I have added the line "This means You" to the no cold callers notice.

... and nor does the Kleeneze man.

The Kleeneze 'man' does not need to know when I am working; he only needs to be able to read two clearly visible signs:

I have either told the distributor I don't want anymore books delivered or have filled in the back of the form and they have stopped delivering.

After the latest visit by a Kleeneze agent, I contacted CHRIS HINDS who is Head of Marketing at Kleeneze.

If you are having similar problems to me, just call Mr. Hinds. He will listen and, no doubt, act on your concerns.

Mr. Hinds is available on: 01254 872323. He may even give you his direct dial number.

The problem is of interpreting what NO COLD CALLERS actually means! I prefer the term NO UNINVITED CALLERS; these unwanted traders always have some interpretation that 'cold calling' does not apply to them.

I did have one gypsy explain to me that his visit was not uninvited because he had put a leaflet through my door a day earlier saying that he would be calling! This was in spite of the fact that I have a sign which reads NO COMMERCIAL LEAFLETS.

That particular gypsy was not trying to sell me anything either, he was wanting to buy gold! So, a sign saying NO TRADERS is better than a sign which says NO SALES.
  • They should respect peoples right to privacy if a home owner puts a sign up indicating no junk mail/catalogues or cold callers they should respect that

The only thing I'm ever pleased to see coming through my letter box are the 'charity' clothes bags. They make for great bin liners. About every 5th change of my bin liner is a charity bin liner. I've saved at least 15 pence this year alone ;)

God forbid someone should try to make a living, eh? Maybe they'd be better off on the dole. I expect the OP would be on here moaning about that, too.

Actually they would be better off on the dole.

One of my friends is an advisor at a JobCentrePlus and they really really hate having to push and offer people cold calling and canvassing "jobs". The reason is that these aren't proper constructive jobs. More often than not people won't be able to take the constant rejection and knockbacks. Although it shouldn't be, the income is often commission based and can often be paid some weeks/months in arrears. For the time and effort put in most people won't make minimum wage because of the scheming by those who run the companies. In the end the person will often end back on the dole and this "job" will often disrupt benefits and cause more debt and arrears.

    As for Kleeneze/Betterware?
Well there is some selling but the ultimate aim is often to build your pyramid of agents.... Why do companies advertise on satellite channels? Why do companies engage Multi Level Marketing? Why do some companies sell by doorstep? Because often the product is cr4p.

So why do I dislike doorstep callers?
I often work from home and doorstep callers are just like telephone cold callers. They invade your privacy. If you could know who they were at the moment they rang your doorbell you would carry on with something more important and ignore them. Rude? No. If I were standing in the street talking to someone and a canvasser disrupted our conversation then that is rude.

What doorstep callers do is to prey on your insecurities that the person at the door is your friend, your neighbour, Mr Postie with a signed for item, a courier etc.

If I am at home working and a doorstep caller rings the bell then they are stopping me from working .

If a housewife is at home looking after her children then a doorstep caller will divert her attention from her offspring whom she might be feeding.

If we are at home spending time with our family then a doorstep caller is interrupting that quality time. All because they feel what they do is more important than you. ;)

    Not me..........

Many moons ago, I inadvertently took a job doing doorstep sales. It wasn't Kleeneze/Betterware type stuff BTW, it was one of those companies where you sell totally useless vouchers for local restaurants, and they promise you that you will be manager of the whole wide world in 6 months - there's many threads on here about that type of company. They also pretend it's not door-to-door until your first day.

Anyway, it was my first (and only) day, and they told me I had to ignore the stickers, and knock on every single door in this particular street by myself. I felt pretty intimidated by them, so I did as I was told.

One of the doors had the sticker, I knocked on it, and the man came out, pointed at the sticker and demanded to know why I'd knocked anyway.

I immediately burst into tears and said "They made me, I didn't want to, I don't want to be a door-to-door salesperson, but they have my handbag back at the office so I have to do the full day before I can leave"

He invited me in and made me a cup of tea, while I sat on his couch crying my eyes out about how much I hated the job and it wasn't what I expected, and then told me to go back to the office and demand my possessions so I could go home. What a lovely man!

More of an anecdote than a point, since 99.99% of doorsteppers won't be there because their bag is being held hostage though :rotfl:

I would also like to add that I've wised up considerably since then! (I was very young and naive lol)
"Most of the people ... were unhappy... Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -- Douglas Adams
