He can't just turn up and turf you out.
However, if you're gathering options/ideas, for temporary housing, if you do feel threatened/wimp out .... think about making a low offer on a holiday let to cover the gap; I'd be looking to pay about 1/3rd to 1/2 the published price for a 3-week short notice stint.0 -
Whilst undoubtedly it is a pain to the landlord , this does not mean that he is allowed to just do what he likes and break the law. Let's just hope that some common sense kicks in in the next 7 days or someone actually explains to him that we have a legal system in this country and processes to be followed. 2 wrongs do not after all, make a right.

Handing your notice in on your rental before you've exchanged contracts on your purchase.
What could go wrong!0 -
Maybe the landlord is worried his new tenants may back out and he is left with a property with no paying tenants. In all fairness you gave your notice and date you would be moving, why should your landlord be put through the ringer?
. Your not moving on time could have a dramatic effect on many other people down the chain. I would move and find a cheap b&b or ask friends or family.0 -
Not too sure the LL knows what he is doing.
However if he does he can (and will) start court proceedings for eviction on the 11th September as OP will then be trespassing: OP served a notice to quit so the tenancy will end and the landlord need not serve any notice to OP.
He can then attempt to recover double the normal rent as 'distress for rent'.
He could also further attempts to recover from OP his loss resulting from OP's failure to vacate.
I do not know about the chance of success of the last two points, though.0 -
obviously someone who doesn't have kids. Maybe the people who are moving in here could tell their landlord the same thing. When your dealing with Families stuff happens.I did it early because i was trying to do the right thing.
Maybe the new tenants have kids as well... your change of plans will be just as distressing for them.
Anyway, you didn't do the right thing - in order to keep a roof over your kids' heads then you should have waited to put your notice in until you had an absolute date for moving (completion dates are never really set in stone).:hello:0 -
Won't someone please think of the children!'' Ok Marge, if anyone asks, you require 24-hour nursing care; Lisa's a clergyman; Maggie is seven people and Bart was wounded in Vietnam ''0

Hi,
what's the other side of the story about the house that you are buying?
Why the delay, will the folks still be living there, if so, then to use your own argument, why are they not thinking about you and your kids being homeless?0 -
The kids are school age and im sure they will find it a bit of an adventure staying in a b&b or hotel for a couple of weeks. We had to do it when the completion for our new house was put back 2 weeks a few years ago and my kids loved it. No harm done to them at all.0
