I read the rest of it, and I still think it's got nothing to do with it. I think you're being incredibly selfish in expecting to 'have your cake and eat it' as they say. You made a mistake and handed your notice in too early, why should that mistake impact on anyone else? I don't think your LL has been unreasonable by expecting you to honour your notice.
In fact I think it's quite sad that legislation to help and support tenants who are so frequently the victims of truly incompetent/bullying/greedy (delete as appropriate) LL's is now what you're trying to abuse (for lack of a better word, maybe a bit harsh) because you messed up.0 -

They are stupid and unprofessional for holding you to your notice? Are they stupid and unprofessional for expecting you to pay rent every month?
Arranging new tenants for the day after a S21 notice expires could be called stupid as the tenancy could still be in place. You do not have a tenancy the day after your notice to quit expires, so
The notice can be rescinded with agreement from the LL and that is the only way. LL does not agree, so you are bound to abide by the notice that you freely gave. You made a mistake that cannot be unmade and you should not expect someone else to go out of their way (and act to their financial detriment) to help fix it. LL was perfectly entitled to arrange new tenants and there would almost certainly be a financial cost if you did not leave as promised. Fortunately for the LL, you would be liable for his losses.0 -

My tuppence worth - I understand that you had reasons for giving notice to leave, and that your situation was not ideal (which may have been contributed to by LL/LA behaviour), but you still gave notice to leave - and that's the crucial point. It's my understanding that your notice, when it expires, ends the tenancy (I'm sure people here will correct me, if I'm wrong). In which case, you have no right to stay beyond the notice period. The LL/LA might need court/baliffs to force you to move, but do you really want it to go to that?
It's pretty clear to me that you should leave and make other arrangements (e.g. storage/B&B), and put this down to experience. In the grand scheme of home-buying, the financial costs associated with doing so probably won't amount to all that much...

I would put all your efforts into finding temp accommodation - where are you based? we had a similar situation happen and we found holiday accommodation and storage. I would think this is the less stressful route for you and your family.
Estate agents can help - they often know of temp renting facilities as this situation can happen.
If you are in control of the next steps, rather than waiting for the LL, you will feel less stressed.

The advice already given is sufficient to cover the situation, I don't need to add further to it, as the majority is correct. It is not your misfortune, it is your mistake, and you made it, so have to live with the consequences!0
