so about 8.1%, 24.6% or 39.0% of the end price (incl. p&p) respectively. Ouch

Using their little Price It calculator on their site http://www.bidpay.com/ it was giving me quotes of a $ extra on the prices you got, don't know whether it's gone up recently! Not a very nice way to have to pay anyway! :o

ok just got this from paypal which the seller has refundeded me

Visual Land (ebay@visual-land.com) has refunded your payment.

Temporary Hold Information: A temporary hold has been placed on funds that
were returned to your account because you used Instant Bank Transfer to
fund the original payment. The funds from this payment cannot be released
until they have arrived from your bank account, which usually takes three
    to four working days.

    Note from Seller:
We have refunded your money because you didn't pay with a paypal USA
confirmed address as we requested and was part of our sales page contract.
If you pay again with an unconfirmed address we will keep £5.00 for the
relisting fee, then cancel the auction.

    Payment Details

Date Payment Sent: 4 Apr. 2005
    Amount: 25.96 GBP

    Yours sincerely,
    PayPal

Refund From Visual Land 4 Apr. 2005 Completed Details £25.96 GBP £0.00 GBP
Payment To Visual Land 4 Apr. 2005 Refunded Details -£25.96 GBP £0.00 GBP

    It's a bit confusing isn't it?

It looks like you sent them £25.96 which you funded partly from your current paypal balance and partly from funds drawn from your bank account. The balance transfer has been refunded straight to your account, but the money drawn from your bank account is on hold until paypal know that the original debit has gone through. They do not appear to have kept the £5 nuisance fee they threatened, although it says they will do so if you try to pay again by paypal.

    ....Well, that's what I think anyway <puzzled>

I suppose you now need to confirm with them how to pay by an accepted method, or you can risk reporting them (as per my original response) for not adhering to the terms of their own auction.

The bit where they say they will cancel the auction if you do not comply is amusing because they can't. However, at any point they can leave you feedback, and likewise you can leave them feedback as well.

you have been refunded the full amount. Paypal are just waiting for the money to be taken from you bank account (the temporary hold bit) then you'll find it will be left in your paypal account, for you to withdraw/spend

You can inform paypal although as I mentioned in my earlier post he will probably only get a tap on the wrist.

However, he can do far more damage to you than a mere negative, he can put a strike for non payment against your account, three of those strikes at any point in your ebay career and your account will be suspended.

I had thought you would have an argument against such a strike as you can prove you tried to pay, but it seems that ebay will probably still allow him to claim and mark your account accordingly.
