It might also be worth checking that you are on the latest firmware for your router.

might be an idea not to over-complicate things at this stage, let's see how the OP gets on with DMT before flashing their router ;)

  • I am surprised that the Official TT Rep hasn't been on yet ;)
I would doubt that the OP will get as much as Baby Frog suggests, but hey who knows. "Sweet as a nut" if you want a bit of help from TT use twitter at I think @TalkTalkCare but check it first , they tend to bypass the forum :D especially if you can point them to your post at the forum.
I would imagine the router itself probably does not have the TT branded firmware but I still agree with GJ that that is the last avenue to explore.

I thought TT lines were usually set to automatically change SNR profile to the lowest possible STABLE setting... i.e. start at 12dB, then 9dB and finally 6dB... (Although if the OP switches the router off each day it may never get the chance to renegotiate a better profile, thinking the router being off is a line problem).

Talk Talk's OCEs can set a fixed profile. Starting a trial with different profiles early in the week is best as they are there weekdays only!

My DG834G is currently connected a 2.2M with a 6dB profile and 65dB attenuation. It will be a different if I disconnect and reconnect to a different circuit in the exchange...

Fair point...If they do flash it, remember to:

    1. Back up current settings.
    2. Use IE to access the router interface.
    3. Use an ethernet connection NOT wifi.
  • I pasted baby Frogmella's contribution into the thread I started on the talktalk website and I had a answer quite speedy stating they had changed it from 12db to 9db and now it's pretty good, it will not do HD however SD works quite well just a stutter now and then, I will give this a good go.

    Thanks all.

  • GunJack here are the stats Upstream 2191 64 db 8.6db
    downstream 468 37.9db 84db

I don't know what DMT is.

Like I said it's still not perfect however I can look at prgs in SD and it sometimes stutters a bit.

you're just about on the edge of the required iPlayer min speeds, hence it's still stuttering. The stats are slightly better, but you'll need to monitor whether it will hold sync at that snrm. If it does over, say a week, then if you use DMT to tweak down to 6dB snrm, and try it, you may just squeeze enough speed out of the line to avoid the stuttering on iPlayer. If you can achieve sync for a week at 6dB snrm, then I'd go back to the TT forum and ask for your profile to be changed to 8INT6, i.e. 8meg max, Interleaved, 6dB snrm.

DMT is a useful software tool for interfacing with the deeper parts of your router to enable you to monitor how your line is performing, and to enable you to adjust your snrm (and therefore your line speed) yourself without asking TT. It can be a very powerful tool for getting the best out of your bb connection.
