before trying to tweak snrm and therefore the line, look at your attenuation first - it's high, signalling either a long way from the exchange, or your internal wiring not up to scratch, or both.

Look here:- http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm and here:- http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php

see if you can't improve your line attenuation first, then think about tweaking snrm :)

( I recon bell-wire is still in place at least.....)

I only use the socket put in by BT and I have a filter on it and changed it twice, also tried it in the test socket, with no change in speed, also turned the phone off so only used router and still the same. I am with talktalk not BT.

I have tried that line test and it seem ok, however I am knocking on a bit and a bit deaf.

In that case, , Ye cannae change the laws of physics, I'm afraid, and your line's just too long to get any faster....unless you move house or pay for a 6-10 Meg satellite broadband service :(

  • And yet others around where I live and must be using the same exchange are using the I-player successful.

They must have better/shorter lines than you...2 houses next door to each other could be connected to 2 different PCPs and therefore the cabling back to the exchange will be differing lengths, i.e. different attenuations.... if you're convinced you're being hard-done to, follow ALL the pointers in the links I gave you above, if you do so with no improvement, then your line's just too long, or your router's on the way out and mis-reporting your attenuation. Can you borrow another router to try, and possibly get some neighbour's line stats for a comparison ??

Ask one of your neighbours if they would mind doing a speed test on their line (and if possible see if they can tell you what their SNRMs are). I can understand if you are with TT response times at their web forum site is a bit dire:(

  • Something I forgot to mention is. When I do a speed check the needle goes to 3 and drops down quietly to 1.76 do that mean it should be about 3.00. However something causes it to drop.
