Is my router up to it?

I am with talktalk as my ISP.
I want to use the BBC I-player using my router the model is Netgear DG834PN that I have had for about 5 years, I have this connected to my TV so I can watch the I-player on their. However my connection speed is 1,75 mbps and the BBC says it should be 2,00mbps.
Is this router up to the job or do I need to buy a new one?

I have enquired if my exchange is up to it off other people in the street where I live. I have connected to the test socket using wire all the way. I have not had any joy from talktalk, neither on their website. And so the only thing I have not done is use another router the reason I have not got another, and no one around by me have one I can use to try. All updates I have done. The reason I never used the first thread I started is, I was hoping someone would know that my router was fast enough just a yes or no, and then I could have bought another. And that could be done without having to wade through all the other stuff on that first thread.0

yes any router is fast enough for iplayer, it's your connection, your software setup, your wiring, your distance from the exchange, or your isp.
Try an ethernet cable if you are using wireless, and do a speedtest!!

In a nutshell......
Your router isn't the problem. Your internet connection speed is not fast enough. A new router will not solve that. How do I add a signature?0 -
what you really need to do is post your line stats, obtained from logging into your router's interface. Standard netgear is ip address 192.168.0.1 with default user/password of admin and password.
you need your up/down connection speed (kb/sec), line attenuation (dB), and snr (dB). With that info we can advise if you're getting the correct speed for your line......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

Sorry but you won't get more speed with those SNRs max 1.5-1.9

You may be able to squeeze a little more out of your router, follow these instructions, although they are for the DG834GT and DG834G v4, they also work on the DG834PN, I know as I have done it, as it shares the same Broadcom chipset as the other two. Be aware that the "tweak" will not survive a reboot, so keep the router on 24/7....I suggest you try to lower the downstream snr to about 6db and see if it's stable at that level.0

Have you got filters in all of your phone sockets including Sky (if you have it) . If you you are using BT for the phone dial 17070 and select the quiet line test and see if there is any noise on the line, or just dial the same number and listen to the line until the "number not recognised" message occurs.🍺 😎 Still grumpy, and No, Cloudflare I am NOT a robot 🤖BUT my responses are now out of my control they are posted via ChatGPT or the latest AI0
