Not everybody's struggling. There are two types of people:
[1] People who earn enough/a lot and spend it on non-essentials and run out
[2] People who genuinely don't earn enough in the first instance.

Many people in [1] believe they are in [2].

You should be thinking about how you can get in touch with your isolated relative and send them a monthly card/letter at least monthly, with some photos of you and your family. .... you shouldn't be ranting about how you think you'll be missing out on some future money potential....

If the guy dealing with it is the deceased husbands brother (did I understand it correctly?) then presumably he can't gain from it and the money would go to either a more distant relative or the Crown.

Lets hope he's the kind of guy who dots 'i's and crosses 't's rather than taking the verbal assertion of someone who doesn't have the authority to give it.

Fair enough it wasn't your sisters place to turn down an inheritance for you, but maybe she her moral code tells her that expecting a £35k bonanza from the death of somebody who is not even a tiny part of your life is a bit greedy and assumed you had the same values.

Inheriting via a Will or via Intestacy is a fact of law, nothing to do with morality unless you have prevailed on the testator.

But the sister has morals you say? Claiming to be speaking for someone else without consulting them doesn't seem at all moral to me.

Huh? I have the feeling it was completely informal chat between the sister and that man. It's purely speculation there even is inheritancefor you!
    A) she is not dead
    B) she might not even know you are alive
    C) she might have written a will (where you are not figuring, giving you haven't seen her for 30 years)
    D) even if it was, no one can have a say on your behalf
    E) even if there is a will with you in it, see D

    This whole thing complete nonsense

And by the way what did you say to your sister? Anything? Who the hell do you think you are, puting words into my mouth?

There is NO inheritance until someone dies!

your aunt is in some nursing home - she is a relative of yours and you are posting about whether or not you will get her money when she dies.

Wouldnt you like to visit her? after all she is your MOTHERS sister! have you thought about that or is she just a cash cow to you?

While I agree on that 'speaking on someone elses behalf' is an issue, I apso see what the poster was saying...
This woman is still alive for crying out loud and OP is worried what his sister's words might have caused...
(which by the way is - nothing)

    Why?

Genuine question, why would you go to visit someone who you're not close to if they've completely lost all grip on reality? To justify the possibility of inheriting something from them? So that other people don't sneer at you because you haven't 'done the right thing'? If you weren't close enough to visit before then surely that's got to be one of the most self-serving acts possible.

(But then I guess as I wasn't close to my mum due to her appalling behaviour yes, I do view her as a cash 'cow' LOL)
