I am new to this but just thought i would add that anyone who has Sky Digital already has DAB radio included. You can push it through your Hi-Fi or I think through your surround sound system.
why go and buy what you have aready got?

Except for the radio stations that are on your local multiplex and are not broadcast by Sky !

Or if you need it portable.

Number of reasons why I have...

Portability

Access to local stations

So one can watch TV (football/cricket etc) whilst others not interested in sport can listen to the radio or if I am on my own so I can listen to high quality commentary on one of the sports radio stations...I know I'm sad...but although Sky sports coverage is good the associated drivel and hype is awful...

You need to have the TV on and if you have the radio on all day the screen takes a hammering...

I know it's only a basic model, but I brought my Acoustic Solutions DAB Portal 1 from my local Boots store a couple of months ago. Only paid £24.99 for it. Wish I'd brought the rest of the stock!

Sky has got nothing to do with DAB.

This is like saying Freeview already has Sky TV included

DAB is broadcast via terrestrial radio transmitters.

Sky is broadcast via satellite.......

Tell me how you manage to walk around with a Sky receiver and dish in your pocket all day listening to the radio?

It has both DAB and FM

It has a clock and sleep timer which must make this the cheapest with this facility, and is essential for late night listening.


Unlike most cheaper DAB radios it has a removeable aerial so you can connect a proper DAB aerial if you live in a poor reception area or want to get more stations.

I think jimmy has used a poor choice of words with "Sky Digital already has DAB radio included" but I know what he meant.

If you have a Digibox then you have access to loads of radio stations and they are all broadcast in a digital format. Indeed because of bandwidth restrictions with the genuine DAB service, if you are at home and want to listen to digital radio, then the "Sky service" actually offers better quality.

OK it's not portable and there are some stations that are on the DAB service that are not on Sky, (However, there are loads on Sky that are not on DAB) but they both offer DIGITAL RADIO. At home it's difficult to argue which is the best, it depends on what station you want, the level of sound quality and if the digibox might be in use by someone else watching another TV channel !

And if you want to listen (not too loud!) in the garden, then what is better than your little trannie?

But watch out! As I have said on here numerous times, other frequencies will soon become available for other DAB broadcasts, and the current radios (with the odd exception) are not equipped to receive them.

And then, in a few years, we'll be listening to DRM broadcasts, too.

The question is, how soon do you want to commit yourself? If you need a new trannie now, then buy a DAB/FM/AM/LW set. If you aren't in a hurry, it MAY be better to wait.
