Remarkably cheeky post this, but it would be handy if at the time of posting offers people could specify whether these are hi-fi systems, smaller radios or the type that fit in your pocket. Her indoors wants the latter type for her birthday but without ploughing through all the links I'm not sure which the cheapest/best is...

Told you it was cheeky..

One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier thread...beware the portable beast...because of the technology they chew batteries like nothing has ever chewed batteries before. I bought a Pure Evoke 2 last year and gave it to my in-laws because I couldnt get longer than 4 hours out of the eight batteries that were feeding it. Do believe that some of the newer models are trying to address this problem but dont think they will every totally overcome it.
Regards

I went to Comet (Botley Road, Oxford) today. They had Acoustic Solutions DAB radios at £29.99 reduced from £49.99. This was in the managers clearance pile but they had boxed stock so it wasn't a one off item.

If it's batteries you're worried about, Try the Pure Elan - it has class leading battery life of 30 hours - I have one myself, took it camping in cornwall last week and it was superb - you can also switch the illuminated display off - all in all an excellent DAB radio.

Does anyone know of a DAB radio which also has a telephone receiver attached, so that it becomes an all-in-one item for an elderly person's bedside?

Does anyone know of a DAB radio with a CD player built in too. Don't want a micro system, just one unit for the kitchen that's not too expensive?
TIA

Argos has a portable radio/Cd/casette thingy that isn't one of those micro systems with seperate speakers and it's £49.99. The make is Bush. I just bought one for the kitchen and it's good, no complaints

• Spotted one of the Goodmans mini DAB hi-fi in Index (Newry, N.I.) the other day for £49.99. Seemed to have quite a few of them on manager's clearance.
I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

• You may find the Goodman GSR 80 DAB ofered at an attractive price. Beware - we bought one and it sounds worse than our old FM set - cheap and tinny speakers seem to be the major problem. But the thing EATS batteries if you use it outdoors - two to three hours on a set.
Pay more, get better.
• For cid- I found a personal in your pocket type) dab PHILIPS - DA1000 at hiwayhifi.com for 84.99 + 4.00 p&p. http://www.hiwayhifi.com/site/sectionlist.asp?section=7&cat=77&brand=75
Best I could find for that model- 99 quid in Argos. Not delivered yet so I couldn't vouch for its quality.

For something cheaper- argos do a Bush one for 69.99 I think.
