Why go from one of the best ISP's to one of the worst though?
<smacks forehead>
Better pings for voip/gaming ie fastpath available, freedom to use any router without breaking T&C's, truly unlimited like Sky (plus package) and far, far cheaper.
Their poor reputation is PURELY to do with their horrible phone support, which somehow the masses think = poor broadband. Stick with their excellent forum support and i guarantee you'll never go back to a BT (spit) based service again0 -
OP, it seems you are on the BT based Sky Connect service (ie non LLU offering) because LLU operators don't give out MACs. However since you appear to be moving to TalkTalk LLU, then a MAC is not required. For peace of mind, i suggest you call talktalk and offer it to them but i'm 99% sure they will say its not required0

tHANKS Baby frogmella. The only thing that worries me is that Sky will keep charging me, if Talk Talk don't use the Mac number. So I am going to email Talk Talk now and give them the Mac code if they want it or not. As sky have said that if the MAC code is not used, then they will continue supplying me!0

If you don't use the MAC BT OpenReach will charge you £30 for the disconnection. The MAC enables them to pass the charge onto your new ISP.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I shy away from phoning suppliers, banks etc. Because I dislike immensely, the wait times, the enormous options imposed with pressing numbers etc. Its one of my pet hates. However, I've had to call Talk Talk today.
After the usual (what seemed like an hour) wait... I was told I was through to customer services. They went through the usual interrogation I hate so much - by the way, I could not understand the Talk Talk lady. It was a mixture of American and Hong Kong accent. Well weird.
Anyway, I explained I wanted them to process my MAC code. She said she would transfer me to Customer Loyalty. Another woman with an accent I could not understand told me that they were customer loyalty and that they would transfer me to customer services! I told her that i'd already been there, and they'd sent me to HER!
Anyway, finally, a third lady came on the phone whose accent was very difficult to understand and she told me that because I was going to have a different phone number, they don't need a Mac code.
I rang sky and spoke to a very well spoken lady who cancelled my sky broadband contract.
So that's that. STRESS!!! In three years i've never had to phone sky as i've never had a problem. So hopefully, I will never have to use Talk Talk's customer phone line either... fingers crossed..
Now, I think I ought to phone BT as I don't want a BT line anymore. (i'm not fussed about a new phone number as it always gets rid of a few hangers on who phone you up for no reason other than just to chat).
Another plus is that the Mother in Law will take ages to remember the new phone number and it should cut down all of her needless calls for a while.
Ok.. I will put on a suit of armour and take some smelling salts in readiness for my lengthy call to BT. Will report back.0 -
Hi Penryn. I thought this was all going to be so easy. I'm sure Talk Talk say somewhere that they will do all the contacting etc.. and I don't have to do anything. So far, this has caused me stress and wasted time. I hate calling these people up.
But the only way is to do it yourself. Its in my best interests that BT don't continue to charge me for a phone line.. Talk Talk are only interested in getting my custom and i'm sure they couldn't care less if BT continue to charge me. So I will go and phone BT now - the last thing I wanted to do on a sunny day like this.0 -
Now I know why I couldn't be bothered to change suppliers till now. Phew. Phoned BT. They asked why I was leaving. I told them i'd found someone cheaper. I didn't want a discussion.. I just want to close my line.
Of course, the man continued with his interrogation, trying to persuade me to stay. I ended up telling him I was going with Talk Talk. he actually LAUGHED. I kid you not.
Anyway, I ignored his laughter and maintained that I'd like to leave please. (i have so little patience for these people).
Anyway, he said, do you realise that they've had the wooden spoon for the worst customer service? I told him yes, I was aware, thank you.
I said, look.. just cancel my service as I've already paid talk talk now.. and he said, its ok, because we can still sort it out and you can stay with us. He claimed talk talk line rental was only 10 p cheaper.. and I said, I think not. I've paid upfront for the year, and its 50% off!
He then said, ok.. if I cut you off - you will be without a phone line so you may as well wait for Talk Talk to just take over your line. And we will charge you nine pounds something to cancel your line. Well, good! I am so annoyed with these people.
God, they make me so angry.
So much for making things easy for changing suppliers! Not in my experience! Beginning to wish i'd left well alone now.0 -
You should not contact the old supplier until TT have confirmed your switch date, it's likely to result in a gap in service. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

hI . iTS ok, i've already got a go live date. but thank you for your help.0

Is Sky or BT your current provider, as in your original post you say Sky sent you a MAC but TT didnt ask for one, do you pay BT for line rental and Sky for broadband, otherwise why are you ringing BT ?0
