Just joined talk talk. Advice re MAC code

Options
Hi all.

I've just joined Talk Talk for broadband. They have not asked me for a MAC Code.

Sky have just sent me the code. Do I wait for Talk Talk to ask me for it? Will they ask me for it? Or should I ring them and give them the code?

Awaiting welcome pack. I go live on 12 Sept.

I hope someone can help.

Are you on a Sky LLU service? If so I doubt that you'll be able to go direct to a TT LLU service, a return to donor via BT is usually necessary.
Why go from one of the best ISP's to one of the worst though?

Hi Macman. I don't know what LLU stands for. Sorry. So I don't know.

I've decided that Sky charge too much for Broadband and I also think BT take the mickey. So I have decided to try Talk Talk for a year for phone and broadband. Got a good deal, and if it doesn't work out, I will leave after a year.

    Local Loop Unbundled.
If you are not on Sky LLU then you will be on Sky Connect-which is it?
Do an exchange search on https://www.samknows.com for your LLU options.

  • I'm more confused than ever. But thank you.

I will wait to see if Talk Talk contact me, then I will be able to give them the MAC code if they want it. Never heard of Loop unbundled, etc. I just have broadband, never bothered to ask what type.

If you look at your online account or your billing, it should tell you what type of tariff you have. Sky Connect is the non- LLU service.
What results did samknows give you?

When we talked to talk talk about possibly moving from sky they told us they didn't need a mac code as they'd just be installing a new line. Which, afaik, would have opened us up to a bt cancellation fee plus loss of number plus having to give sky 30 days notice. We didn't take them up oddly.

Yes, that is because TT are not able to offer you an LLU to LLU transfer, hence the only solution being a new line. It should have been possible to port the number, and you would have to give 30 days notice anyway.

Is that because you were under contract? I am lucky, as I've been with BT for hundreds of years and I don't need to give notice. Same with Sky. I'm still keeping sky t.v. just not taking their broadband any more.

Incorrect. With BT, If stopping your service, you still need to give 30 days notice whether you are in minimum term of not. For s switch of provider, you need to give 14 days notice.
For Sky, 30 days notice applies.
The no. of years you have been in contract makes no difference.

Nope, not under contract at all - literally just out of 12months. That's just talk talk's way apparently (so said their salesman - so therefore it doesn't make what I've said true of course!!!!). We went to plusnet in the end. Were switched in 3 weeks, no need for any cancellation fees, kept our number (though sky tried to shaft us on this) and didn't have to give 30 days notice.

We kept their tv service as well. Though if some great offer comes up we are considering a switch to virgin, but that'd only be to take a major monetary advantage
