I've read through this thread, but I don't really relate to any of the examples given. What, for example, is Bon Marche (translated: good market) but what does it mean in this context? And who is Lucien?
However, I used to be able to spend all day out in the garden. Half an hour and I'm tired. That's when it comes home to me. Getting tired much more easily and much more quickly.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
And I`ve been avoiding Bon Marche cos I thought they were too young for me!0

Well I am 51 and I started this thread because i was watching Good Cop (Thursday night BBC1) and the lead character's doddery old dad was the actor who was probably 20 tops in my youth. He played Lucian or Lucien or Loochen in the popular 60s/70s series the Liver Birds and I remember he had rabbits. Just brought it home that I remembered him young and now he can play a very old chap so I must be getting on a bit myself.
I don't do Bon Marche for clothes but I used to do when I was very skint in the 80's however I don't do Primark either.0 -
When you realise that the music idols from your youth are now grandparents & not dead from naughty substances...;) (e.g. Bob Geldof....)
When younger members of the family ask "what's that" when you dig up some old 45's & then someone on TV melts them in the oven & makes a fancy bowl out of it....:rotfl:
I'm not THAT old either !Lurking in a galaxy far far away...0 -

Thank you for this. No wonder I hadn't heard of them. I've recently had to re-do my wardrobe due to weight loss, and I don't go for cheap fogeyish clothes! Although my favourite designer, David Nieper of Derbyshire, does recognise that figures change over time, and a size 12 aged 20 is not the same as a size 12 aged 50. His styles are absolutely classic and timeless. Although, probably not what the under-20s would wear - maybe not 'cool' enough!
I missed a lot of those earlier TV series because of working funny shifts, doing OU studies, not always having a TV. Quite often people quote a TV series at me and say 'you must have seen that' and usually, I haven't.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Actually, it can be quite a boost when you see the state of some of them and realise that you aand your old man are not looking too bad.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
