I need to start looking to sell my books as we have decided that they take up too much room, I don't really want to pay commission so need to work out where to sell them.
If they're popular books / authors then Facebook could be an option. We've several Buy & Sell pages locally and I managed to sell a lot of my books on there. That said, about half of my books by lesser known authors ended up down at the charity shop.
and from the other thread
which immediately gave me another date which is quite unrealistic of being mortgage free when I am 40, which is 6 and a half years away. If we changed our holiday and lifestyle plans then it may be possible but we shall see. I won't panic DH, for now I will just keep talking to him about the other dates.
While I'm enjoying the MF challenge for me it's not a high priority. By making the extra ops to finish mine in 6 years rather than 8 I'll only be saving about £400 in interest payments. A nice saving but hardly worth sacrificing 2 years worth of 'normal life'.
I've got the added incentive that I'm considering moving once I've paid up & the sooner I do that the better chance I've got of getting another mortgage.
If you've got the money then go for it, but if you enjoy your holidays and some of life's other luxuries will the benefits outweigh the losses?0 -
Thanks for the reply voucherman, the only date I have to make is 3 September 2022 as that is when my contract ends and I don't want to have to work to pay the mortgage although we are looking at 9 July 2021 which is our 10 year wedding anniversary. It would be a nice gift and would give us a year of putting those payments into savings. Holidays are what we have always earned our money for and although we still want to keep to our 3 holidays a year we are looking at changing the style of them as we are a bit sick of the money the last few have cost. We shall see, if we keep to our idea of £460 a month we are well on the way.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

My new mortgage savings account is up and running so I am off with my first bag of clothes today to see what I can get for it, anything is better than nothing, I also have a gold necklace that I do not want so need to find somewhere to take that. I have a diamond white gold ring too which came from an old relationship which I don't wear so need to think about where I can sell that, I know I have a jewellery box somewhere full of stuff so I will try and find that.
I think in these early stages selling our unwanted stuff is going to be easier. We are booking financial advice appointments for the end of the month for a couple of things so I am going to try and suggest to DH that we do a SOA before that and then we can look and see what we have left. Even if it doesn't all go on the mortgage DH doesn't make the most use of his money so I am hoping someone else can talk some sense into him!
I still haven't spent any of the £220 that I have for this month. I have some change that I am using up and am hoping that just keeping a small amount of cash on me may help me to keep my spending as low as possible.
I hope to come back later with a new total for my mortgage savingsMFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I have just read about some places taking "cash for clothes etc" and I am going to wait for now so not going out so early now. I still need to look into selling some of my jewellery though.MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

A gold necklace that I hate and has been in a drawer for years, that will be £38 thank you. I also found £5 in my handbag so I now have another £43 in my mortgage pot, £51.80 in totalMFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

£178.20 left to save for this month's OP and I still have £363.85 not allocated to anything :j I think I will stick to the £460 OP and any money left over I will put into a Christmas present fund.
I have spent a little today so will find the receipts to work out how much. Seeing as I had made a bit of money I treated myself even though I put the earnings straight into the OP account. I don't think my spend came above £10 in total though so I am still well on trackMFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

It has been a good day on the spending front. Lunch cost me £7.94 and I can claim it back through work. Some of the guys went out for coffee and it was one that I could get a free drink with my stamped card so I haven't spent anything. However we have a free day in York so I am not sure how well that will go.
There is a skirt I would like to buy and it has 10% off until Sunday. If I get it I will have to find the money but going to try it on and then decideMFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

We didn't have free time in York in the end so I didn't get tempted to shop today. I have spent about £13 today on food but I had to pay for all meals. Treated myself to food I probably didn't need but it was niceMFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

A NSD today and there will be another one tomorrow as I am away with work and food will be provided.
We will be having a nice night out next Saturday, DH and I have never actually been on a proper date and we have been together for 8 years so dinner and a couple of drinks. It would be good to go somewhere with a voucher so we save a bit but they don't do them for our favourite restaurants so never mind.
I am looking forward to seeing how much I can get for 2 of my rings on Monday and I may start listing some of the books that I want to sell, I need to find my old phones too. I would quite like to get this month's mortgage payment from sales as much as possible as I have foreign trips with work over the next couple of months and although I will be able to claim back most of my costs I will need to spend the money in the first place. They are also places I have never been but DH has so we would never go there together, this way I will be able to do everything I want (hopefully).MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200

I want to see how little we can spend on food for the rest of the month, DH will probably make it a bit difficult but we have £50 in our joint account and I want to transfer as little as possible to see us through to the end of the month. Going to meal plan on Monday and see if we can stick to it!MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200
