Way to go off topic.
On topic: It would be crazy to allow firearms to be posted through royal mail. Although saying that I wonder if knives can be sent through royal mail.
Either way it only takes one instance of the package being left unattended before someone could nick and cause serious damage to others. That is never worth the risk.0 -

They are clogged with RM complaints. This one, for example.
And clogged with complaints about Yodel. And probably all delivery companies. Take out the RM and other delivery company complaints and this board in particular would be mostly caterpillars in salad bags and the odd dodgy builder.
And people who could start an argument in an empty room........
You do understand what "clogged" means, don't you? It means that there are lots of complaints, that the board is overrun with them. Clogged does not mean one, yes? :rotfl:
And people who are unable to admit they don't know what they are talking about ...0 -

And calling RM idiots for having the common sense to stop doing it is daft. It needs a specialist courier. One that specialises in secure transit.
Which, if you look at RM's consultation document (linked of the OP's link), is a service that Parcel Force Worldwide will still provide. Although presuemably at a higher cost than normal parcel post0 -
Literally the stupidest thread I've read during my admittedly short time here.0

In that case let's really go for it...
All packages containing firearms and knives should carry a bold red warning label describing their contents. That way, people will know to avoid them.
Surely no one could find any possible downside to this.0 -
The 'gun control nuts' are probably the same sort of fools who don't want nuclear waste processing sites built next door or chemical plants sited next to schools.
How do these people live with themselves?0 -

First of all I'm not going to humour the gun [STRIKE]control[/STRIKE] nuts.
Secondly it also affects airguns which need no license.
Thirdly their job is to post items so if someones trying to send a keg of gunpowder they can stop it being posted, along with any guns instead of making excuses.
Corrected your post for you, I'm sure this is what you ment as any right minded person would think. :rotfl:
We have gun control for a reason - to stop weapons (and air rifles are weapons, abeit ones that are normally used for hunting and / or target shooting) getting in the hands of those who are likely to misuse them or be unable to use them responsibly.
I can fully understand Royal Mail not wanting to deliver them, given the legal ramifacations if a package containing a gun and / or ammo goes missing. If someone really does not want to deliver a gun or ammo by hand then they really should be using a courier that is equipped appropiatly
There are some air rifles that require a Fire Arms Certificate (FAC) and Air Pistols over certain power levels are illegal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_gun_laws#United_Kingdom).Cheltenham Dude

Is there any chance at all that this policy is in some way related to the new RM 'leave your package with your neighbour' policy?
It is not always safe to send guns through the ordinary post, and just one gun falling into the wrong hands will have far more devastating consequences than Auntie Mildred's birthday card going missing.
If you are one of the few people in this country who are legally allowed to own a gun, accept that you have pay for a courier. Just like the people who are legally allowed to drive have to pay for car insurance. Suck it up!"Most of the people ... were unhappy... Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -- Douglas Adams0
