Idiot royalmail at it again.

Options
As well as being unable to properly deliver letters it seems they want the ability to just not bother posting other items as well when they fall into certain categories. This time they're trying again to ban anything gun related from being posted. In fact they're even trying to use their poor standards as an excuse!!! https://www.collectors-club-of-great-britain.co.uk/Militaria/News/Have-your-say-Royal-Mail-proposes-postal-gun-ban/_ch30_nw314
The consultation document states that Royal Mail is concerned as it is unable to guarantee the safe custody of firearms during carriage within the meaning of section 14 (1) of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988. It says that in order to provide safe custody it would be required to set up a dedicated handling system and conveyance pipeline. However, the legislation does not refer to a guarantee, it refers to “reasonable precautions” for the safe custody of firearms and ammunition. The BASC has spoken out to condemn the proposals. Christopher Graffius, director of communications, said: "These proposals are quite ridiculous.

Can't understand why Royal Mail might have problems carrying firearms.

Excellent move by Royal Mail - very few people actually need a firearm, and those that do should not let it out of their sight.

What's idiotic about it? RM need to ensure they conform with the firearms act.

I'm actually quite surprised they did before this.

Given the legal requirements for handling and storage of a firearm (and in many case ammo*), it would be a nightmare for them to deal with, and simply not worth the costs involved in specifically keeping them safe, in compliance with the Law.

IIRC it would require them to have locked, secure storage areas with only certain people allowed access to, separate to any normal secure storage (akin to, but separate from the customs fees due storage), and mean that they potentially would have to adapt their existing fleet of vehicles to have secure containers that comply with the rules on transportation of firearms.

It could also be a nightmare for the frontline staff to handle - does Dorris at the Post Office Counter know the difference between the various classes of fire arm, that an antique flintlock is (from memory) classed differently to a double barrelled shotgun, or that (again from memory) different types of shotgun have different classifications (from memory there is a difference based on the number of rounds it holds).
It would probably cost many millions, for a small number of packages per year, with a huge chance of something going wrong, either because the post office counter staff may not know enough about the vagaries of the firearms act, or because the person posting it doesn't know (or indeed lies) about it....

*Given that most postal/courier companies require you to take precautions with anything potentially explosive (if just to make sure that they know what they're possibly loading into aircraft, which in turn have some very stringent rules on what is allowed).

First of all I'm not going to humour the gun control nuts.
Secondly it also affects airguns which need no license.
Thirdly their job is to post items so unless someones trying to send a keg of gunpowder they can get posting instead of making excuses.
Bill Harriman, BASC’s director of firearms, said: “This is a solution to a problem that does not exist. Without any evidence you wonder why we are doing it. Having gone through this process in 2005 when it was knocked on the head by the regulator, one wonders why Royal Mail is doing it again.”

The 'gun control nuts' are probably the same sort of fools who don't want nuclear waste processing sites built next door or chemical plants sited next to schools.

How do these people live with themselves? :D

If Royal Mail stop carrying guns in the post and that leads to a reduction of one gun(air rifle or otherwise) that is good. Am I now a "gun control nut?" I do hope so and am prepared not to be humoured.

So people that advocate controls on guns are "nuts", Royal Mail are "idiots" ... What does that make you? :p
