    Well done SD :T

Funny how the mind works - I'd be the same
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Another weekend flies by - where do they go? Not really done much other than sort more stuff to go out and having a bit of a digital clear up today sorting out photos and files, etc. Been backing up the HDDs as well.

Got lots of little projects planned for the coming dark months, a bit of home improvement, some decorating, and continuation with the removal of 'stuff' as required. Managed to clear out the cupboard under the stairs to a degree this afternoon and its nice to be able to open it to a nearly empty space bar the one or two items that should live there!

Also spent some time with my boy reading, playing, Lego building and its this we are having more of and fussing over things less of.

Not exactly looking forward to the return to work, but it pays the bills. Weather is awful here and hope it improves before my walk to catch the bus tomorrow.....
  • At last managed to update sig although the figures should be taken with a pinch as the way they come about is false to a degree as the changes in the account take effect. Next month will be more realistic and the 'ahead of plan' figure will be interesting to watch - it should be hard for us to keep ahead of it as it rushes towards it's own goal, but we should always, from this advantageous start point be 'ahead'. If we go behind, something is amiss!

Spent a little bit today, clothes replacements really especially work clothing and also de-cluttered our kitchen crockery. We have had a right mix of old, cheapy new, hand me downs and odd crocs. Sainsbury's had a sale on in their home-wares, so replaced our crockery completely with a new set, smaller and more attuned to our usage. The old stuff is all bagged up with loads of other stuff for charity tomorrow.

Downsizing/simplifying is very therapeutic, feels much better in the areas we have tackled. So nice to go to a cupboard or shelf or cabinet and see exactly what you need there in its place.

So lovely to have things you've chosen together too.

Bit of an odd month. Figures look worse than reality. Sig shows an increase in debt by £113, which is correct even though I have updated a few days early (no transactions due). Had a few quartlery bills in this month and as previsous posts, have restructured our accounts a little. Next month should see an improvement.

On other fronts, we have cleared out some more stuff, mainly old toys no longer played with and even managed to sell some, so all adds up. I am in the process of getting out of my mobile phone contract. I used to use the mobile all the time when self-employed but only really use it for the odd text now. Managed to get a simple, straight forward phone on PAYG so I can top up with cash for £15! This means another DIrect Debit cancelled and another little drip-drip drain on the main finances plugged up.

My wife has also had a sort through her jewelry and we have some broken/damaged and not worn gold to weigh in, so have been out today to get some prices. About what I was expecting, but I want to ask around a few more places first. This, once sold, should add another little bonus either to the mortgage account or maybe towards some replacement furniture.

Got to sit down tonight and plan the coming three months for fireworks, family occasions and of course the end of year seasonal celebrations!

Not sure whether this would be of interest, but I used some old jewellery (broken or just no longer worn) and had a couple of things made for DD. The jeweller made two rings but used my gold and stones, and I left other gold with her, ready for a gift for DS. The rest I sold on line. I could never have afforded to buy rings like this and it meant I kept a little history, but the items are more suitable for DD to wear.

I love reading about your simplifying - having a place for everything and everything in its place makes life so much easier.

    Best wishes Tilly

  • We had thought about that, but she has some nice bits to wear and doesn't wear that much TBH. We thought better paying another chip off the mortgage for the time being and then if something catches her eye in the future, we can buy it guilt free! Just got some more online quotes and they are substantially higher than we were offered today, but I want to try a few more local places first. I am hesitant to send stuff off in the post....
  • You are indeed going for gold!!! Absolutely great stuff!! I definitely need to focus on decluttering, and you are extremely motivated - way to go!!!
  • Quietish day today. Lazy breakfast, walked along the seafront with the dogs and then washed the car and tidied the garden. Our son is away with the school next week on an outward bound course and is a bit over-excited at the moment. Going to be tough as first time away from us and without us, so I expect house will seem VERY quiet tomorrow.... :-(
  • Well yes, the house seems weird without our boy around - far too quiet! Just checked our bank/mortgage balance and we have dipped under £70,000 which is a milestone and hopefully it will stay under now (the One balance bounces around daily according to what is going in and out). Wanted to get this far by the end of year, so we are a few months early. Think we might try and get under £68,000 by year end now....!
