Long term lurker popping in with what is probably a daft question - Butterfly Brain you suggest chopping and freezing veg, do you cook it first or just freeze raw? Sorry if the answer is obvious :o

I don't cook them, just chop and spread out in a layer on a baking tray, then once frozen I pop them in a freezer bag and just use as if fresh. Only thing I've found does not freeze well is mushrooms.

Really? I have trouble getting mine to eat less than 10 portions.:o
Banana at breakfast, apple for snack, salad wrap for lunch with tub of strawberries and another banana, apple/peach/plum after school and at least three veg at dinner plus fesh orange juice. That's at least 10 a day. I'm sure not eating 5 a day won't give you scurvy any time soon but I think we should encourage children to eat as much fruit and veg as we can. I agree that children do need fat but it should be healthy fats wherever possible. Full fat milk until they are at least five so no watering down to make it stretch...;)
If times were really tough for us we'd eat beans on toast, baked spuds and lots of cheap fruit. As a short term measure it's fine. :)

Your children are eating far too much fruit per day which is high in sugar, albeit natural sugars, but still far too high and a contributory risk for diabetes. You should only include a maximum of 1-2 portions of fruit/juice per day. The rest should come from a variety of vegetables, making sure to include lots of colourful and green leafy veg, not just the starchy varieties.

There is a mantra on this site which seems to be ignored far too many times in that " be nice to all OSers".

Wasn`t there a way to express your opinions in a kinder less confrontational way?

I value this site because I get so many good ideas from other people`s contributions which enhances my day.

Haribo Junkie often posts on here and her posts are always worth reading.

It would be a shame to lose it..............!

Well I have to say you've all inspired me so much that I've started going through my store cupboard and freezer and not only come up with a few meal ideas from what's in them, but rediscovered a couple of Christmas puddings, vacuum packed chestnuts, jar of mayonaise (sp?) and some candy canes that are all well enough in date to use for this Christmas! Hurrah, my Christmas cupboard is under way thanks to you lot! :D
