oh dear, i look at it this way all my mince dishes are more or less half veg, for savory mince i addonions, carrots, peas and sweetcorn, for spag bol i make my town sauce so tomatoes (both tinned/passtata and fresh) onions, peppers, peas and sweetcorn so for all the meat they acually get abit moe fat doesn't matter. i bought some mid level mince awhile back from tesco when it was bogof it worked out cheaper than value but it was horrible really scummy and grisly i never get this with my value mince, but i'd never buy frozen thats a step to far for me so i know where your coming from.

Oh yuk, that sounds nasty! Actually I remember buying some that was supposed to be better/best quality and it was like that and soooo watery...wasn't impressed.

Yes I bulk mine out with veg, tomatoes, etc as well, and as it's only for the 2 boys I can stretch it out to make a few meals (when I remember!) - I absolutely NEED to save some money for Christmas as I have zilch at the moment so am very excited with all the ideas I'm picking up here! :j
  • I always buy the Aldi everyday mince 800g for £2.49 and it is a lot nicer than Asda or Tesco's.

  • Sorry quintwins didn't realise that you don't have one nearby :( If you go to their website http://www.aldi.co.uk/
they have a store list, and maybe one is coming near to you soon.
We used to travel 8 miles to our nearest one before they opened in our town, it was well worth the extra diesel x

  • Qwintwins I heard that they are opening forty new stores soon and you can nominate a site for one on their site x

Not rubbing it in but the super six this week are
plums, pineapple, oranges, granny smiths, conference pears and kiwis all at 69p, so no meal makers, but plenty for five a day

I don't like to sound like a fuss pot but here goes.

There are children who drink vast amounts of fizzy drinks and have sweets, crisps, biscuits and burgers most days. These are the major risk factors in diabetes statistics.I count a couple of extra portions of fruit per day in this post....for hungry children this is hardly a major issue in an otherwise balanced diet.

I quite agree. I would much rather my child ate a banana than a McDonalds :-)
