Parking in a Disabled Bay
Comments
-
A supervisor once pulled me up on the issue of me parking in the disabled spaces.
I told her to get the manager, I asked him, "Are you going to tell me not to park in the disabled spaces? I'll not return to this store again if you do"
He didn't, he know's i'm in there 3-4 times a week, spend £200-£300 a week so he isn't going to lose his store 12K a year because no-one cares where I park.
I get a few smutterings from the old people, I just tell them to F*** Off, that usually gets their blood boiling!
And if I'm honest....the reason I park in the disabled and the parent and baby spaces is because I was sick of my car (A nice BMW) getting it's door dented by inconsiderate people at the supermarket.
Since I implemented my new parking policys, I've had no issues0 -

Why is it only expensive cars that seem to have trouble with dented doors. I've driven for 50 years(gosh that's frightening) and never had one yet, admittedly all my cars were not expensive.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

This is what I call the 'you are not allowed anything nice' syndrome.
(pay through the nose) to live in a nice house - Expect late night revellers having fun with car alarms as 3am.
(pay through the nose) to have and run a nice car - Expect supermarket dings (although you parked as far from the entrance as possible)
etc
etc
etc0 -
To avoid getting dented doors I park as far away from the store as possible on an end. I find people driving round to get space near store. Its always empty where I park because people wont walk that far0

Good point well made - unlike the idiotic fishing expedition from fearlessdukuman.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I always park in the disabled. I'm 24 with no condition. At any private car park, I park the closest to where I want to go.
If that means disabled or parent and child (I have no children) then so be it.
I have small children, but i also am a support worker and i support people into the community, some who do have difficulty with their mobility and walking a long distance is difficult. Then along comes someone they take the last disabled space and yes it has happened when i have been out doing my job and they take the last disabled spot.It is selfish pure and simple ,just doing that means the disabled person has to wait or go elsewhere to shop.I never park in a parent and child without my kids if they are full so be it i will park elsewhere and walk.People who are abled bodied and able to walk as and where they want should realise how lucky they are.A lot of disabled people would dearly love to do that .This is one of my real bugbears in life as you can probably tell.
Will speak my mind because that"s how i am0 -

One of my bugbears as well. Totally agree. :T
Apart from stopping people from paying fake PCNs, one of the main points of this forum board has evolved into raising the awareness of the needs of disabled motorists and passengers and their rights under the Equality Act 2010 (not the Blue Badge scheme as it is irrelevant on private land).
I also have children and used to work with disabled people in a previous job. In particular, I mainly worked with people with mental incapacity which clearly means if they are taken to a shop it's far safer to park close, in a disabled bay. And obviously they are protected under the Equality Act as well. But they didn't always have a Blue Badge, sometimes they had forgotten it (understandable). But it didn't suddenly mean their legal right to use a disabled bay in a retail car park was removed from them. A sign can't overrule the law and pretend it doesn't apply.
The only difference with me is that when someone 'takes the last disabled spot' I don't assume they are not disabled, I normally work on the assumption that they are. Blue Badge not being relevant, who can tell - it comes down to the fact that most people do not and would not take a disabled spot if not needed by their condition, or that of their passenger. It's really only the PPCs and Mobilise (now Disabled Motoring UK) who say otherwise but they are biased...wish the national press would see that.
It was Mobilise's fault; their flawed BayWatch scheme led to a lot of alarmist headlines about 'disabled bay abuse' without any fair, balanced, disability-aware survey EVER having been attempted. And yet they protest that they are the disabled motoring 'charity'. SHAME ON THEM.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The manager of Tesco's will never be the landowner, so no rights at all to ask someone (who simply isn't obviously disabled. or displaying a blue badge) to leave.
Not even has the right to demand to know if they're disabled or not.
What rot, of course an employee has the right to ask trespassers to leave his employer's land. Even a PPC would have that right if they were the landowner's agent.Je suis Charlie.0
