Firstly I am looking to open a reasoned argument into how the forum feels about people who park in a disabled bay.

Personally I do not do it except under the following two circumstances:

    1. It is peak shopping time and all the normal spaces are taken,
    2. It is very late at night and there are loads of unused spaces (like 11:00pm at a Tesco with 30+ disabled spaces).

My rationale is that whilst I want people who are not as able bodied as myself to benefit from parking closer to the store and in wider spaces to allow movement, at the same time I do not want to be disadvantaged myself from going into a supermarket. Why should I have to park over half a mile away in the next car park to have spaces, or, go away and come back later? Sorry but it's a dog eat dog world in this instance.

Am I wrong in this instance or is this normal/ rational thinking? Only reason I ask is that I hate the odd time when an irate person flashes their blue badge at me in point 1.

On a fishing mission? OK heres a fish..

Number 1: Its peak shopping time and all the spaces are taken Seriously all of them? ive been in a busy / very busy car park and if you hang around for a little while and pull to one side you can usualy spot a space, or when a space is going to be available soon, Disabled spaces are there as a courtesy and should only ever be used by those that have a genuine need for them, blue badge or no blue badge, if you have no need to park there then Wait

Number 2: It is very late at night and there are loads of unused spaces (like 11:00pm at a Tesco with 30+ disabled spaces).

Ok so the place is almost deserted, with the exception of a few cars, and a bloke in a high vis vest ready to pounce, its still best practice not to use the disabled spaces withuot permision from the store/car park owner. Virtualy all the supermarket ( and other car parks ) that i have visited have had ample non disabled spaces close, or very close to the entrance/exit.

At my local Tesco's it does my head in. Every space within a decent distance is always taken, yet 30+ disabled are all empty bar 1 or 2.

I always park in the disabled. I'm 24 with no condition. At any private car park, I park the closest to where I want to go.

If that means disabled or parent and child (I have no children) then so be it.

So in other words you are as selfish as the OP of this thread. I am considered disabled under the equalities act , so have a right to park there, but I don't as I feel my disablement doesn't warrant me parking there. When you actually grow up, it may be worth your while to consider your actions, the same for the OP of this thread.

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

You sound like a right charmer. Am I right in assuming that your manner of driving is just as selfish. I wouldn't mind betting that it is. I trust that I never come against your ignorant parking manners.
I can afford anything that I want.

I hope that I never have the misfortune to be driving in the same area as you.

My neice is disabled and so was my uncle and what annoyed them as much as abled bodied drivers parking in disabled bays was disabled blue badge holders parking in mother and toddler bays. They give all blue badge drivers a bad name (their words not mine), they even park there when there are disabled bays available.

If you search on the disability & dosh section there was a thread a few months ago where the blue badge holders justified it by saying they are "special" and their "right" overides those of mother & toddlers.

All of the disabled people I have ever known have always stated they wanted to be treated equelly but it seems we live in a culture where some disabled blue badge holders prefer to be seen as a "special" case rather than equel with the rest of society.

Personally I would still never park in a disabled bay because I don't need too, I don't mind walking 100yrds.

I have been in a situation once where the entire car park was full except for disabled bays, so I went to park in one of them, but the parking staff told me to move on. I told them that there were no other places, but they insisted, so I did and left - I guess disabled people's money is better than mine.

After that and one other incident over parking there I stopped going to that shop.
