Haha Dinah, yep that's me, a 'bright new graduate'
Well fingers crossed for a lovely shortage of MFL teachers in September 2014
Had my induction to the school today along with some other SCITT trainees and also some new teachers, either NQTs or more established teachers moving school. It was pretty full on with a lot of information thrown at us, although TBH I think a lot of it wasn't that relevant to the trainees as such. Just after lunch we went off to spend time in our respective departments, but mine was hosting a Eurovision Song Contest thing so I spent half an hour singing German karaoke and doing the Macarena - so that was fun! I was really impressed with the standard of the kids' performances too, they were ace. Later on we had to complete some initial needs assessment type forms and TBH the languages one has floored me. I think I do probably have good knowledge of most of it but boy do I need to swot up on my grammar terminology as I don't know what most of the ticky box sheet even means... disjunctive pronouns anyone? I've also been given a plan of the year's work, which I daren't even look at yet!
So it's all feeling very real now - scary but exciting. The initial talk about all the stuff they have going on - trips, extra curricular stuff, charity work - actually made me really happy as it's going to be so different from my current work of sitting tapping at a keyboard for eight hours looking at the same two or three faces day in day out
Also got my letters through from student finance so I've signed the declaration and sent it straight off. Things feel like they're coming together. Any developments with yours Kitty?

WoW! Your day sounds amazing - but also scary, a disjunctive pronoun, holy moley, I'm going to have to google that!
Ok, I get it but wouldn't have called them dis-junctive more re-inforcing myself!
Well, today I took my passport and a photocopy of my marriage certificate to work, drafted a lovely letter in words of one or fewer syllables explaining the name change, put them all in an envelope, addressed it - and have forgotten where I put it!!! It's somewhere, either at the Reception/Medical Room area or in my office......hope I find it tomorrow!!
The school I'm going to do my first two weeks at breaks up tomorrow so I need to send an email wishing them a good break and say how much I'm looking forward to joining them in September
I'm so looking forward to all the extra-curricular stuff as well, isn't it all so darned exciting?!
How big is your school? The secondary school I currently work at is 7-forms per year group, which feels huge to me.0 -

:rotfl: Fingers crossed that does the trick!!
It's not so much that I need to swot up on the grammar as I think I'll know it all, I just don't necessarily know the proper name for it. Case in point: disjunctive pronouns basically seems to be using the word 'moi' in a sentence as far as I can tell?!
Seems like independent schools are the ones to get into, holidays-wise - fancy breaking up tomorrow!! 'My' school is about 1200, including 6th form, which is about the same as my old school and college put together, but it feels a lot bigger somehow - perhaps just because of the unfamiliar building and people... There are 92 members of teaching staff on the list I was given today _pale_Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
All I can remember is that a disjunctive pronoun is a stressed one! :rotfl:Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Yes according to wiki it's also called a personal pronoun. So when you say "me" in a sentence. "Who wants cake? Me!"
I went to welsh school and I have no idea what any of the grammar things are called cos we did it all in welsh. So even though I know mostgrammar I don't know what they are called

Hahaha love it Igamogam!!
Oooh, cake? Me, me, me!!!
I popped into my leisure centre this morning after a docs appt (amazing how much stuff you can get done in the odd morning off work) to enquire about how to get the best prices (there are so many levels of membership, it's really confusing), and I'm hoping that my teacher training will count as 'full time education' as I will qualify for the mega discounts. They do however have a £20 a month membership which you have to pay up for a year front but absolutely everything is included - even sauna etc - so if I use it more than once a week that may work out even cheaper than the student card. They apparently have a 'shape up for summer' thing happening later this month (bit late if you ask me!) where you pay a one-off £30 for a month, with no admin fee, so I'm going to do that to get an idea of how often I might make use of it and then decide from there which membership to go with. There are a few classes I fancy trying such as kettle bells, but don't know if I'll enjoy them so it'll be nice to have this sort of trial month.
Ooh I do waffle on don't I? Writing stuff down helps me set things straight in my head
Docs appt was to see about my various forms of eczema and psoriasis - one of the things on my list to get sorted before September; small patches have been appearing on my face and I don't want them spreading - I don't want to be Miss Crusty-Face to the kids! I've been given a couple of lotions and potions which I've been prescribed years ago but been too forgetful/lazy (:o) to use properly so they've not worked. Fingers crossed for this time around.Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Hope the lotions and potions help you become less facey crusty! OH suffers from eczema and after using steriod creams and all sorts the best thing for him is L'Oreal Men Expert eye cream! I use it when I'm a bit too dry and it really is crakcing stuff!
Good idea about the one month membership to the gym too. You'll also have to take into account whether or not you'll have the time or energy to fit in as many classes as you'd like once you start, but I suppose you'll still be getting value for money if you only drag yourself along to one class/gym session a week.
Oooh you'll get a student card won't you? Discounts a-go-go all round!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
That's my worry as well Birdie - time. But at the same time I don't want to totally burn out either....
I get a student card at the moment anywayI need to check that we will actually get a student card (not sure if the school is a member of the NUS) because if we don't I'll order one before I leave here

Tete, this is really exciting progress, despite scary-sounding grammar. As usual, Lara's found the perfect smiley :rotfl: I'd be really looking forward to a juicy new challenge too - and a new wardrobe! I'm imagining you doing the Macarena in a blazer and an updo.
