Urk, shudder! At least it wasn't "You don't have to be bonkers to work here but it helps!"

    Those signs make me cringe!

Good morning! I have been pretty quiet on here the last few days but things have been going on in the background. I can't remember how much I've written here but in summary, following my Primary interview, I had begun to wonder if I would actually prefer to teach Secondary. I'd had to prepare a presentation for the interview as though it was a lesson, and I really struggled to keep the level of it nice and low for Primary-aged kids.

I went along to a teaching roadshow and chatted to a few people (the GTTR and a few providers) about my change of heart and they were really helpful. I was asked to send a CV in to one place nearby and subsequently invited for interview yesterday (AMAZING how much more relaxed it was compared to the Primary one, even though 1/4 was in French and 1/4 in Spanish!) - and they've offered me a place :D _pale_ _party_

I can't quite decide how I feel. I thought the English bit of the interview went well, I was far more able to be myself and talk from the heart than I was for the Primary one where I felt like I needed to say the 'right' thing to the panel of seven(!), but I was worried I'd messed up the Spanish bit by coming out with a few French words (it's hard switching between them!), so I was preparing myself for a rejection I guess, so now everything's going how I hoped I feel a bit... spaced out, I can't believe it's actually happening :D:D

So nice to know I'll be getting out of this place though, had another run-in with idiot partner-manager person yesterday where I was forced to defend myself over a complete non-issue!

Deep breath, time for a cuppa I think :coffee:

Gosh that's brilliant news! :j When you say they've offered you a place, where is it and what's it entailing and for how long?! :)

For the record, I think you'll be a great secondary teacher, you seem more suited to proper debates and discussions with young adults than messing with play doh and glitter with little kiddies. :)

Have you put in your request for voluntary redundancy?

How's your Dad doing BTW? :)

I agree actually. I wanted to be that sort of person but I don't think I am in reality, and the more I think about getting back into languages and how to make them exciting to kids (teens), the more excited I get about it.

It's an in-school teaching course, so runs for an academic year from Sept. You start off shadowing and gradually build up your teaching hours, all with the support of a mentor. It's based at the college (called a college but is secondary and sixth form) I interviewed at in the town where I'm working now, but they have partner schools all over the area too, one in my home town (not sure which, poss my old school ) - certainly won't have to travel as far as I would have for the primary one.

Redundancy request going in today, still don't think I'll get it but hey ho, worth a try.

Dad is doing OK! He went for a scan the other week and got the results on Thurs, tumour has shrunk by about 30% so just going to carry on with the chemo and reassess later. It's not something that'll ever be cured but if it can be stabilised that'll be fab as he's doing well in himself.

Gosh, life is feeling so much better than it did this time last year, it's unbelievable the difference a few months makes.

EDIT - thanks Kitty! Bit of a change of plan but even if I hate it, I've lost nothing as I really hate where I am! How's things going with you? xx

Delighted for you Tete, is the one local to you the one with the big digital clock on the front? (I'm trying to work out who it is without mentioning names)

Would you be teaching languages from scratch or would they be coming to you with some experience?
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

That sounds really good. :) So after a year you could be teaching for real?! Exciting! :T

Good news that your Dad's tumour is shrinking and he's feeling well. :)

Thanks! :) It's possibly that one NIM, that's not my old school although actually I think they might have merged when they built that new building so it's probably all one now anyway. That said this is a Catholic college so come to think of it it's more likely to be the Catholic school, that would make sense! Not sure.

I guess it depends on the year group, if it's yr7 it'll be pretty much from scratch because what I've seen of Primary MFL teaching is pretty dire!

Yeah Birdie, that's the idea, that hopefully you'll be able to go and work in one of the schools in the group - so it's a bit of a year-long interview!

    :j :j :j Congratulations Tete!!! :j :j :j

SO HAPPY for you! What a good day it has been already :D

I too think you'll make an excellent secondary teacher. It's great to do this type of on-job training - you can get a real feel for the profession from the beginning, and learn all those practice based skills as well as the academic stuff.

It would be great if you got redundancy now too and got a little payoff.

Glad your Dad is doing okay :D
