Apparently having some school experience, enthusiasm and a good education go a long way! I'm going to register with another agency on Monday and the pay ranges from £45 to £75 a day, depending on the type of school you go to, and the type of children.
I'll let you know how I get on.....it should take a couple of weeks to get my references through (especially as I know one of them is going on holiday!) but in a way that's good as I have house stuff coming up and need the time to get myself sorted out! (oh and finish that pesky form, lol)0 -
And only 158 new emails at work which is pretty amazing actually, although it was half term so that's probably done me a favour. Hoping to get it down to under 100 just by deleting all the non-applicable stuff...Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

I dated and lived with a teacher for a short time...I say short time because that's all it was. I never saw her. She was up at 6.30AM, out of the house with more bags than a Boeing 747. She was back at 7pm, after endless meetings, marking books and lesson prep. The flat was full of toilet roll tubes, shoe boxes and gold pens. I had to share the bed with her laptop and endless stories of little boys and girls who couldn't behave and parents that thought the sun shined out of their tiny behinds.
I remember commenting once to a friend why so many girls on certain "dating websites" were single teachers. After three months with this lovely but overworked woman, I now have my answer.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I don't think anyone on this thread is under the illusion that teaching is a walk in the park, but you could say the same for any number of professions. That's why training institutions usually require some previous experience, so that they know applicants are committed and have their eyes open, as it were.
As for your observation about dating websites, I'll have to take your word for it! I'd guess there is a higher ratio of female teachers to male teachers generally. To be honest, your post reads as though you would expect any future girlfriends to send you off in the morning with a cooked breakfast and be ready when you get home with your slippers warmed! I have to agree Shrimpy!
I'm out the house at 6.45am and quite often back after 8:30pm - OH doesn't complain, he just gets the dinner ready for when I get home
It's hard enough working long hours without your OH having a problem with it too!Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -

Not much I can say in response to RichyB that hasn't already been said with eloquence and gusto. I'm already at my desk 8am-6pm most days and I hate my thankless job with its zero progression and career prospects so things can only get better in that respect. For the record I too think that a good partner should be there to listen to your work moans, whether you're a doctor or a dustman - it's just what you do in a relationship.
Pleased to report I've managed to get my inbox down to 33, 11 of which should be quick to respond to in the morning. Had to go shopping for leaving presents (it's always me!) otherwise I would have made even better progress. Off for a run now, hoping dodgy knee and hip won't cause me too much trouble, and also hoping that if I tire myself out I might manage to shake the jet lag and get to sleep before 1am tonight!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Well done ladies for forming an orderly queue to knock my head off. As with all posts you can read into them what you wish. My point, which I obviously didn't manage to communicate effectively was that teaching seemed to suck the very life force out of her. Because I cared for her deeply I joined her with obvious resentment to elements of the job that made her unhappy at times. She never seemed to get a break. Now it may be said that " its her story " and not all are the same, however you can't deny that there is a trend in teaching. A growing group of frustrated overworked, underpaid, under recognised, under rewarded people male and female. Yes lots of people work crazy hours and bring their work home but there is something about teaching that seems to be unique. One minute its a lesson plan, the next its discussions about abused children. Its a tough job, that's all I was saying in my original post. For the record, and this is not written to sooth any nasty burn, I do not wear slippers and make my own breakfast. Good luck with your career choices, I wish you the very bestHi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
