I loved being with Year 3, I'm going to be spending a week in a Year 2 class next week at a different school, so it'll be great to see how to do a full week in one class, I can't wait!

My mum (former teacher and tutor) has just called and said she's going to go through her bookcases again and put materials together for me and DD, she'll have tons as I'm a chip off the old block and have a few files of websites/papers together already and I haven't even applied for the course yet!! :)

Phew well it was back to work with a bump this morning, I could do with a week off after last week but of course my colleagues think I've just had a week off on holiday so I'm having to act 'rested'!

I'm only in the office this week now before going off to New York so I have a million and one things to do both at work and personally. I took a few minutes when I got here this morning to have a think and write down what I need to do this week before even opening my inbox and that calmed me down a bit!

Trying to call School P today (no answer so far) and see if I can go in on Monday for the day - late notice but I'm on holiday anyway ahead of my trip (I leave on Weds) so it'll mean only having to take 4 days off in November for school time.

Really really enjoyed my week last week. I spent Monday with Year 3, Tuesday Y6, Weds Y1, Thurs Reception and Friday back with the Y3 class. I wasn't so keen on Y1 and Reception, it didn't really feel like teaching as so much of it is learning through play. The kids are totally sweet at that age though!

I definitely feel more confident going into all of this now, I can certainly see myself doing it and I noticed that I found ways of explaining things to the kids without being prompted, and even a few things that I think the teacher hadn't thought of, so I reackon I might be pretty good at it too.

I'm very up in the air about whether to go for the uni course or the in-school training. The one I'm thinking of doing gives you a PGCE at the end ... to be honest I can't see what the difference is as there are taught elements and placements for both. The in-school option is geographically much closer and would make things much easier logistically, not to mention cheaper on the petrol. Lots to think about.

Diet wise things have gone completely to pot :o I'm so annoyed with myself as I started well and really wanted to be skinny in time for NY. weighed myself this morning and was relieved to see I haven't quite piled it ALL back on but mostly I have. So I'm going to give it a good push this week and next to just try and get rid of the bloatedness - got some detox tea and everything! Want to do a few days of the Shred but it's TOTM and I wasn't feeling up to it this morning.

Any kind of money-saving has also gone completely to pot :o:o So this is something else I'll reassess when I get back from hols.

Hope the school you're at this week is as good as DD's Kitty :)

How is everyone else?? :D (EDIT- Hi Wendz! Yeah the young'uns are cute alright but markedly snottier than the Y3s!!)

Glad you had a good week in school! :) It's lovely to hear that you were helping the kids off your own back, sounds like you're a natural! My friend teaches reception and she's always telling us how difficult her job is (which I'm sure it is)... but then she goes on to say that she spent the day playing with Play-Doh, singing songs and digging in the school garden! Sounds awful! ;)

Good luck with the detox tea... I have a box full in my drawer and I've only ever managed to drink about 3 (tiny!) sips before giving up and switching it for coffee! I just can't get my head around herbal or fruit teas! :o I've decided not to try any more, it's just a waste of money for me! :)

  • Yeah, I mean it's hard work in its own way but I felt a little like a glorified babysitter tbh - I'd much rather be in Y6 even with the extra paperwork and stress - it was so much more interesting. That said I was in a school in a very nice area so they were all good kids - I might not be saying that if I'd been in another school!

Just finished my detox tea there, it wasn't that bad actually. Hoping that and plenty of water will flush me out (er..) and make me feel a bit fresher :D

*de lurk*:mad::mad: ...........ahem you really dont know the half of it. Its no easier/harder whether you are in EY or Y6 - stresses, expectations, demands, responsibilities, planning, and paperwork are no different.

  • Ha I knew someone would have something to say about that. I didn't say it wasn't hard work, I said I didn't enjoy it as much.

They are both hard work in their own way i bet. Looking after young children is very tiring as they demand a lot from you. Sounds like you are more suited to the older group but i guess you cant always choose once you become a teacher.

I can definately see the little ones being more snotty. I keep getting covered in snot at home lol.
