  • ARGH! Just had an email from the lady at the school I was hoping to get work exp with in October saying "Sorry don't think the Head will be getting back to you any time soon ... Just got the Ofsted call..."

!!!!!!!!!!! And now I really AM in a massive panic and can't show it of course because I'm at !!!!!!!g work. This is just my luck. You know there are those people who just sail through life effortlessly, with good things happening to them all the time? I'm the cosmic counterbalance to that :(

    Aw, Tete, that's rubbish :(

Do you have to make contact with schools through people you know or can you just call any of them and ask? That might be easier if you can as you'd have the option of a lot more schools.

If she got the call today that means ofsted is wed or Thursday as you only get 2 or 3 days notice now, so maybe you'll hear next week?

Urgh, sorry things aren't going your way :( I second Beccie's suggestion, can you just get a list of local schools and ask them all, even if 3 of them offer 1 or 2 days, that adds up to a full week! :)

Hope you've finished your homework (I was always doing mine on the bus, one habit I'll be trying to not let my children get into as I'm always doing things last minute now and regret not training myself to be more on top of things! :o) and I hope you enjoy French class again tonight! :)

  • Hi girls, the Ofsted is tomorrow for two days. I was just really hoping to secure something in the next couple of days for either next week or the one after. I'm already cutting it fine for getting time off my current job as it is.

No I don't HAVE to go with people I know, I just thought that would be the easiest most hassle-free way to do it (obviously not) - I can't imagine just phoning up on spec will be that warmly received :o Plus I don't really know how to approach it in that case either. Especially as it's so sort of desperate!

Hopefully meeting up for a coffee with the former super head this week, hopefully she might have some connections still. But I can't see myself getting anything in before half term at this rate which means I need to have two weeks of exp in November :( Argh it's all so difficult. Feeling very negative about the whole thing at the moment. If only the application deadline wasn't so bloomin early - if I miss this one it means putting it off til September 2014 which is just forever away! :(

Right, I've woken up this morning and according to the news there are just floods everywhere, several roads near me are impassable and I was already aquaplaning half way home last night, and it's rained all night. So I've decided this is my payback for all the times I've been the only person in the office when it's snowed a little bit, and have texted my boss saying a daren't risk it in my little Micra.

It gives me a good opportunity to ring round a few schools which is something I can't do while I'm at work. Wish me luck :o

EDIT - Aha - it's just been on the news that the actual road I need to use is closed so that's got rid of my guilts! Alternative routes are all country lanes - no way I'll be taking those in any kind of weather.

Hooray for flood days! :T The floodgates are going up at our office, although that doesn't protect the car park so there's a lot of muttering about evacuating and people 'working from home' if the rain doesn't let up. Fingers crossed! :p Although I'm kind of worried that they'll suggest I just drive my car home and walk back to work since I live a massive 12 minute walk away. Maybe I should just keep quiet about that! ;)

Hope you can put the day to good use and get some school contacts made and some work experience sorted! Just hope that all the schools aren't closed! ;)

  • Yay for your flood day Tete! It isn't even raining by me today although I know a lot of the surrounding area is still affected. Hope you get everything done that you want to today, will keep my fingers crossed for you.

  • It doesn't actually seem to be raining as much as yesterday so I do feel a bit of a fraud looking out at the wind!! But then I think sod it, I've never had a day off sick yet and other people are always not going in for one reason or another. And I'm taking it as flexi!

ANYWAY. I've been on the phone a bit this morning. Called friend's cousin's school directly (the ones who need a CRB before they'll let me in!) and I'm popping in to them this afternoon with my passport, driving licence, birth certificate, utility bills, DNA sample and inside leg measurement so that will set the wheels in motion for that.

Also been in touch with a primary head I used to work with about some classroom experience - he seemed rather unenthusiastic but that may just be his manner, can't remember! - anyway he said it'll be possible and also said I should apply direct to their school and do my teacher training as part of their SCITT scheme so going to have a little look at that - school-based training is something I've been wondering more about lately TBH as getting a good PGCE application in by the deadline is looking harder and harder.

Also meeting the former Super Head for lunch tomorrow - not sure how many contacts she'll still have in school but she's certainly someone I'm interested to talk to.

Right, best get myself in the shower to be presentable for this school. What shall I wear to look presentable and responsible without looking like I've tried to look presentable and responsible?!

What did you decide to wear?! I'd always go for a dress, but in a bold colour and dressed down with boots and cardi rather than super sensible looks-like-I'm-off-to-an-interview black or grey with high heels. :)

I'm gutted that the rain let up earlier this afternoon so no big floods to send us home :( It's raining again now so maybe we'll get a call tomorrow telling us not to bother coming in, one can live in hope! :) Looking forward to just hiding inside with my curtains closed when I get home, love this weather when I can just hide inside, it's just a nightmare when I'm not at home as it means I have to get wet before I can get cosy! :p
