Well done ladies for forming an orderly queue to knock my head off. As with all posts you can read into them what you wish. My point, which I obviously didn't manage to communicate effectively was that teaching seemed to suck the very life force out of her. Because I cared for her deeply I joined her with obvious resentment to elements of the job that made her unhappy at times. She never seemed to get a break. Now it may be said that " its her story " and not all are the same, however you can't deny that there is a trend in teaching. A growing group of frustrated overworked, underpaid, under recognised, under rewarded people male and female. Yes lots of people work crazy hours and bring their work home but there is something about teaching that seems to be unique. One minute its a lesson plan, the next its discussions about abused children. Its a tough job, that's all I was saying in my original post. For the record, and this is not written to sooth any nasty burn, I do not wear slippers and make my own breakfast. Good luck with your career choices, I wish you the very best
Much more eloquent mate, and for the record I'm a bloke. Her story is what it is, but from experience its pretty much determined by the school (MIL teaches, works 8-5 and does and average of 3-5 hours outside of school per week while my daughters Godmother is probably working an 80-90 hour week as standard because the school is experimenting with having kids learn on the floor and separating rooms with curtains)
The first post you left was rather antagonistic, and while it may have been well intentioned it came across as you being an !!!. This one is better phrased and doesn't read as condescending or make you look like a chauvinist.
Remember, on teh interwebs everything you say can and will be taken in the worst possible way. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -
I kind of get what you're saying Richy, but it sounds more to me as though Tetes current job is sucking the life out of her and making her miserable. Better to be busy doing something you love. And thank god that teachers do get some passionately involved in what they do.
Glad you're home safely Tete and are getting organised!

Augh, thought I'd got a bit further than that to be honest, and now I'm poorly. Half expected after all the drama in America, then staying up overnight, flying long haul, going straight into a primary school on my first day home and then bliddy stressy work the rest of the week. I was in meetings all day yesterday about total non-issues, when I have so much to do at my desk. I'm also out at meetings and conferences and all sorts the rest of the month, I'm panicking about how I'm going to fit in another three school days
Done my major money shuffle, my accounts were all in disarray as I left in a bit of a tizz but they're sorted now. My savings account is down to £500ish (this was at £2000 not so long back and didn't include any NYC money, it's all just been frittered :wall:), however after all my bills have been paid and petrol money put aside* I have £334 left in the current account. Wonder if I can make it to payday with £200+ still in there?
*I mentioned before that I'm keeping a petrol diary (which is currently on bits of paper all over and needs putting into a spreadsheet) and was hoping to use that as a separate little petrol account but because I'm filling up every 10 days or so and only claiming it back every month, it's not working like that. So what I'm trying to do is just suck it up and pay up the extra petrol costs and save whatever I claim back - wish me luck with this one!
That turned into a long waffle, that's what happens when you don't have time to update more often! I'm off home to my bed now and hoping I'm better by tomorrowWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Get well soon Tete, I'm off to my bed (with DD watching a DVD beside me) as well, as I've got another stinking cold and feel absolutely pants
Was going to write my personal statement today but know that it wouldn't have been a good idea!

Thanks girls - honestly primary schools are dangerous, disease-ridden places aren't they Kitty??
Thankful to say that I'm feeling much better this [STRIKE]morning[/STRIKE] afternoon, slept on the sofa in a big fever for three hours last night then went to bed for about another 12, and now just have a bit of a dehydration headache and sore throat. Only just got out of the shower and have just realised I have about an hour of daylight left if I want to check my oil and hoover the car out. Gah, bliddy winter!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Bonjour Tete!
Good rest of weekend? Glad you're feeling a bit better. How's progress with your mammoth to-do list?
I just wondered whether you - with your photographer hat on - have used one of those flexible tripods that you can attach to anything? I think they're called Gorillapods... Thought it might be quite a good investment, especially to capture those tricky group shots (compulsory at Christmas with my OH's family)

Hi Poddle, I actually bought a gorillapod a few years ago for my compact camera, and in all honesty I've never used it. They look great but TBH you can usually find a table or something to rest the camera on... If you do want one for a compact camera and it's not for a gift (I haven't got the packaging), I can send you mine?
Right.

Getting there slowly but surely. Most of Sunday was taken up visiting little godson for his birthday and Grandma, and I had to go down to Brum for a meeting yesterday which is more time away from actual work, but it did mean I got to see a very dear friend who lives down there, might have accidentally have fallen over and a burrito went in my mouth though.
Have started and kept up with MyFitnessPal so far, haven't kept to my goal every day but still managed to lose 1.5lbs in the first week, so that's good.
My friend who was dealing with the BA claim has emailed; we each owe £260 for the extra five nights in the hotel, which is not too bad at all! Even if we get nothing back I'm happy enough with that. If we get back everything we're claiming for (to include food and taxis when moving hotel as well as the hotel itself), then we will get £427.72 each which would be fab... fingers crossed. This does mean that my savings have dwindled yet again and I'm starting almost from scratchWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
I did my first draft of my personal statement yesterday and so far the comments from friends and family are favourable. Phew! I'm already in the zone for filling out application forms as I am now 3 days into unemployment and have applied for quite a few!
I must get the GTTR application form completed asap though as I'm doing my QTS tests next Friday. Gulp!
Well done on crossing through lots of things on your to-do list0 -

Aw, thanks Tete, that's sweet. I was actually thinking for my DSLR - one of my friends swears by it, but it does seem like a bit of a gimmick.
Good news about the BA claim - it would be fab if they do pay out.
And huzzah for getting back on the MFP and losing weight this week! I restarted on Monday too. I wasn't going to as I've got a weekend away, then it's my birthday, then a weekend in London... and basically loads of other excuses! But I thought if I'm really strict and stick to 1200 cals all the other times it's better than over-eating *every* day
I'm going to see a bibliotherapist at the weekend! Can't wait
Well done on doing your personal statement, Kittikins :T That's exactly the sort of thing that I would put off as long as humanly possible. Good luck with the app & the tests!LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380
