iceicebaby - thanks. Now I'm wondering if any Building Societies do their clearing via Halifax (HBOS)...could be useful for deposits to regular, monthly savings accounts!AndyR - hope you get nice Sunday overtime at double pay, this weekend, if any manual sorting out is required for reversing 'charges' without customer action being necessary.0

Mine isn't there, which is fine because I've got some spare cash (had been meaning to transfer it to the savings account, but luckily I haven't). But I wonder what overall effect this will have on spending this weekend? Like a lot of people, I generally hold off spending on non-essentials till the first weekend of the month, and while the banks will have to pay back any charges for going overdrawn on direct debits, they might not be so lenient on going overdrawn for that really fabulous pair of shoes.0

I would doubt there will be any building societies use HBOS for their clearing since Halifax were themselves, until quite recently a building society. It's the traditional high street banks that tend to act as clearers.
However Bank Of Scotland may act as clearers for some small (probably Scottish) building societies. They also act as clearing agents for Sainsburys Bank.Amazon sellers club - member number 63.

very clear article on BBC news : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6509393.stm
they recommend getting cash over the counter from a branch if at all possible, rather than trying cash machines which might refuse. All direct debit payments will be honoured and charges will be refunded.0 -

AndyR wrote "Bank Of Scotland...act as clearing agents for Sainsburys Bank." Anyone know if BACS from HBOS (Halifax bank) current account of customers credits SAME DAY to Sainsbury's Bank account of same customer?0

My OH did not get paid today. We bank with Halifax. Do you know what their suggestion was when he enquired what would happen to his dd's when they bounced?
Increase his overdraft by 2k!!! For a fee (of course!). You've got to laugh at their audacity.0 -
Thank god I get paid on the 26th of every month!
I know a few people who won't be pleased to hear about this! Hopefully it won't happen anyway."I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -
... And it's still not there. Apparently they're saying they should all be paid by 12 pm tonight, which is rather different from what they were saying on Friday. Anyone else still without payment?0
