Not that it should make any difference to the temp, only the time taken to heat up, but have you got a bypass fitted in the airing cupboard?

There is also a 1 in a million chance that the coil in your HW cylinder is so scaled up it is not allow the heat transfer to the cylinder contents.

Every 1mm of scale reduces the efficiency of the heat transfer by around 10%

I believe that what keystone means is what kind of thermometer is it? Is it a laser IR thermometer, a temperature strip, contact thermometer (with a probe) or a classic thermometer that my mother used to stick up my backside to see if I was telling porkies about being too ill for school?
Thats right i'm trying to determine the accuracy of the reported measurements and the method used to obtain them.

  • This is the thermometer.

Its a probe one and pretty accurate I think
  • Bypass valve is in the airing cupboard. My husband fitted a new one a while back as the old boiler wasnt working

OK so what is the temperature at the inlet to the coil and what is the temperature at the outlet of the coil with the boiler running and DHW on?

What is the temperature at the cylinder drawoff when you run the tap and what is the corresponding temperature at the pipework (not in the water coming out of the tap) under that tap. Leave the tap open before taking measurements to clear the cooled water from the pipework to the tap.

    Cheers

  • Thanks Keystone. Will have to ask my husband to test those things as I am completely confused by it all and I have no idea what those bits are
  • I was not sure what was asked before. I just turned the boiler on - to the maximum on the dial. This is apparently 85 degrees C. I just turned boiler on, left for 10 mins and then got my husband to open the air vent which is just before the cylinder (eg its water straight from the boiler) and the water was only 60 degrees. Surely this means boiler faulty?

In that case get Worcester out under warranty. Call then tomorrow, they will probably be there Saturday.
