Well in my tiny little world a dead leg is one where water has not moved for a period of time. Overnight from cylinder to tap or not for a year in the case of capped off fall into that category depnding on how you define "period".

So you are both right. :D

    Cheers

  • The boiler is a Worcester Greenstar. I am considering getting Worcester out to have a look.

The cylinder is quite old, should that be replaced? Or get Worcester round first?

How long ago was it installed ? The installer should give you some kind of warrentee get him back, if you get WB round & they find no fault with the boiler they will charge you, your cylinder may have some scale in it if it's that old but it's rare for the cylinder not to reach temp if the boiler stat is high enough, get the installer back to check it out.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • It was installed 3 months ago.

He has not got back to me when I contacted the installer. He has made no mention of warranty other than Worcester one

Most good installers give at least a 12 month warranty on their work, yes if it is a boiler prob then he can get WB involved, but like i said if it's not a boiler prob or he hasn't set it up correctly & something else is wrong they will charge you for the visit & they may not solve your prob anyway, maybe he is on holiday which is why you can't get hold of him, have you had your cert from gas safe/building control yet ? if you have then he has done the correct thing of reg your boiler so it sounds like he is bonified & maybe he is just away.

    A few thoughts

Is the supply to your hot water tank by gravity or is it pumped?
If pumped have you checked the operation of the two or three way valve?. This switches the hot water from the boiler between the central heating system and the hot water cylinder.
Is the cylinder stat firmly fixed to the cylinder?
The best way of checking that the cylinder stat turns on and off at the correct temperature is by substitution.
Was you system flushed when the new boiler was installed...takes at least a couple of hours using x400.
Was the hot water cylinder working correctly prior to the instalation of the new boiler.

The water never got that hot with the old boiler. The gas installer put in a new control on the bottom of the cylinder which is set at 60 degrees. Turned it up earlier, water got slightly hotter but still no where near where it should be. There is a new three way valve installed.

System was power flushed before the new boiler was installed.

Yes I got a gas safe certificate.

sometimes sayings in the plumbing world don't necessary come out of a book or off of some government paper, if you went into the merchants & ask any seasoned plumber what a dead leg was they would say it's as i described & not what you continue to write, wether or not it's the correct term it's what the world & his wife knows it as.

I note you have now changed it's name to a 'long dead leg' rather than dead leg.
