So how do you envisage that working?
80 million items
how do you filter out the amazon packets to prioritise them?
You get a discount for pre-sorting mail, if they sort per main sorting hub and this is sorted as a priority upon arrival with DOs instructed to ensure Amazon mail is sent out the door asap it isn't impossible to achieve if Royal Mail wanted to. I was speaking to the staff at the local DO about those using PPI but not paying correctly (or in one case not paying at all) and asked why the people caught out more than once got to keep their account, the answer was Royal Mail are desperate for business. I would guess Amazon is one of, if not the, biggest customer for Royal Mail and I know from talking with my own suppliers how demanding they can be. If Royal Mail want to keep people who weren't even paying for their post it wouldn't surprise me what they'll do to keep a customer as large as Amazon. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

Customers get a discount for presorting mail
Amazon doesnt deliver mail,it delivers packets
no company packet sorts to postal sectors
how do you staff those Amazon packets going out "ASAP"
RMs delivery model is to get staff covering all mail & packets under 1 delivery
hence the use of park and loop
Do you see it as cost effective to have a van out delivering 1st class packets at the detriment to other mail?(remember packets don't come under the USO)
Those days are gone. Most DOs struggle to staff 9am SD deliveries these days, let alone setting up some priority 1st lass service
Amazon have access to tracked which gives a cheap next day service. If they choose not to do it then its their choice.
prioritising 1st class packets is not a smart move on RMs side of things.0 -

You are correct, RM bend over backwards for Amazon, RM deliver around 80 million items a DAY, 80 million over a year is hardly going to tax them.0 -

Don't bother paying for the service, it's a joke. They sent mine by Royal Mail first class and surprise surprise it didn't turn up when it was supposed to.0

Just a note for other Amazon Prime members. I had a Prime order that was sent non-tracked on Tuesday, should have arrived yesterday. Hasn't arrived, just spoken to Amazon and "as a goodwill gesture" they've extended our Prime membership by a month, free of charge.
Better than a kick in the teeth, and I expect the order will arrive today or tomorrow.
It does say on their website that if you use "One Day Delivery" and it's late they'll compensate you, which appears to be a refund if you're non-Prime and pay for the service, or a free month if you're Prime.
That being said, if you NEED the order next day I would go for the guaranteed express delivery option.0 -
Amazon send some stuff 1st Class on One Day Prime and say "guaranteed for tomorrow" on Checkout. I called to complain it isn't guaranteed and they said it's sent Royal Mail "Premium UK" (which is printed on the parcel below one of the barcodes) and the woman at customer services (Dublin, not Timbuktu) was adamant this is guaranteed the next day.
I took the parcel to the sorting office and ask the manager but he said it was just 1st Class and there was nothing on the label to show they'd have to deliver the next day.
Amazon did compensation with a month's Prime but I've had 5 parcels sent 1st Class not turn up the next day.
Part of the reason is the way the depot sends the postman out has changed and they don't have enough time to do the whole round.
Perhaps the poster who used to work for Royal Mail could confirm whether "Premium UK"exists or is just babble from Amazon? In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

it means nothing
its not a service, and makes no difference to RM
Its plain old 1st class0 -
Thought so, but you can see why one might gain the impression Amazon has a special arrangement with RM if that's what CS are telling customers! In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0

When I spoke to CS yesterday and got the free month added, the guy said "I'm surprised at Royal Mail". I wasn't. :rotfl:0
