I work on checkouts at Tesco and we have been told only to take 10% of the bill in coupons. If you have bought the item that is different as we can take the relevant coupon and an extra one for the same product. If you have bought relevant items it's usually best to ask the operator if s/he can just see what will go through and let you have back any that don't. There is no 'magic' button that will let or not let your coupons go through. If the till beeps and won't let it, then there is nothing the checkout assistant can do about it(providing they have already pressed the total button). Also please bear in mind that if they just accept loads of coupons they can be called for a disciplinary so be nice! It is their job after all.
Most Tesco staff are very helpful but please remember to treat them how you would like to be treated;)

Thanks for that, so can we assume that when weve seen them actually press a button......its to get the total(presumably from the sub-total), as a few of us have definately seen another button being pressed, and coupons that previously beeped......then dont.

I was pondering this the other day, if you have a till that is empty at the beginning, then during the day, cheques, cash and card transactions are registered, then when they cash up they have say £400 in the till and they know that sales are £500; therefore vouchers would account for £100 of the sales, wouldn't it be a case of just reminding the voucher happy scanning cashiers not to accept so many ?
