DLA claim

Hello
As some of you may know from my previous forum post we are disputing a recent dla decision.
Our son wrote all the things he needs help with on the dla form.
DLA refused to accept what was written and are sending someone out to our home to check our son's body and to ask him the same questions what they have already refused to accept on the form he sent.
He is upset as it makes him out as a liar and is upset that he may have to show his body to a stranger.
My previous post explains more but what we cannot understand is..if they wont accept whats written why would they accept whats spoken.

  • The medical you have at home is done by a registered GP - its just to clarify the information on the form. I can assure you that niether myself or my daughter had to expose our bodies in any way shape or form. The most I had to do was show how much difficulty I had climbing up and down stairs.

Its not suggesting your son is a liar either.

You can ask for a copy of this report if you do not agree with the subsequent decision.

The trouble is some do lie so the tests have to be stricter, it would be unfair to ask the tax payer to take everyones word for a DLA claim.

As said it will be a Doctor carrying out the medical/tests so try and reassure your son that it is no different than a visit to his doctors.

Fraud on DLA is of more or less hthe same amount as official error.

sorry I don't understand what you mean.

Oh wait I think I do now, you are saying the lvl of fraud and official error are about equal...not sure if that is true, why it's relevant.

If the natural death rate in a given area is higher than the murders in the same area, would you suggest that murderers should be more active or that the reasons for a high death rate should be looked at.

The fraud rate of DLA is very low.

Hamlett as others have said, it's a doctor who comes to do the examination. Just a chat about your illness and the difficulties that you have. They asked my dd to walk to the other side of the room. I then asked if she could use her crutches as the physio advised her not to walk without them or braces. The doctor was fine with that. 2 weeks later the award came through.

Hope this sets your mind at ease a bit. It's standard if they require more information than they already have

No one knows what the fraud rate is. It can never be anything other than a guess. What about all the people who lose their DLA on review because their condition has improved, had more effective treatment, surgery etc.

I wonder how many people report an improvement in their condition if it means they lose the car or the cash.

sorry but if it is low? then maybe it's because the checks are in place and more than someones word is needed to make a claim.

I worked with a guy who got DLA and he worked on his feet for 9 hours a day and got to work on his bike, he claimed and got DLA ! he lost it when someone (not me) complained to DLA.

It's low according the DWP figures, not mine.

I'm only responding in this post to reassure the OP that it's quite normal for them to send a doctor out to examine when making a claim for DLA.

all i can say is that i volunteered at DIAL fir 2 years.
i stopped because u couldnt justify a lot of the claims ythat were successful because of my skill in filling the forms out.
i was told that it wasnt my job to jusge.... just to get the best possible outcome dor people that asked for our help.

in my case id estimayr that a good 60% bof claims were accepted due to my skill in completing the forms.

io was no longer prepared to be complicit .....

I don't doubt that for a minute nannytone. However, the wording on these forms is critical as you know. Especially working for an organisation like dial, you're also getting people in who could be illiterate, have MH problems etc etc. If the form were easier for people to fill, they wouldn't need to go to places like DIAL or CAB or WRO for their assistance.

Besides, OP's question has been asked and answered. This isn't about fraud or how difficult the forms are to fill in :)
