I do just hope I have not over done it in being upset by this but I do really really want this job and it hurts when they think you are not serious.

I won't get the job now anyway as I have contacted them and made it plain that linking questions about disabled access with spam is a seriously concerning, therefore, they will hate me anyway. But it is better to be unemployed than to say nothing about such poor methods.

Is this what you call "standing up for your rights" You have questioned them and fell at the first post. Pick yourself up and email/call them/ The guy who is away next week and anyone else who can help you. Explain in a better manner what information you are after and keep on until you find out what you need to know. It`s just to easier for you to give up as soon as you can. You haven`t fought for anything yet Phil, most of the time in life you never get what you want the first time round you just have to keep at it until you do

I have been thinking about it anyway and it is not up to a Clerk to ask me for my private information to make sure I am not a spammer. That information is private and thus really is only the business of managers.

It just worries me now that this clerk is going to say to his boss. "Don't employ phil as I don't like him as he is a forceful guy".

Sorry studentphil, but you are starting to rant. I can't understand what you are saying. Rather than battering the keyboard and pressing post, you need to start thinking about what you want to say.

    You said:
To be honest I am really upset that place would even hint spam about a request over disabled access. To me spam email is selling you penis implants not asking about access.

This came out of the blue.... then when asked you mention post 7, which says:
It is to talk about disability and not a true interview.

In fact I am bit annoyed now as the Clerk will not pass me on to the relevant person now to set a time and date for this as his manager is on leave and he can validate who I am.

That doesn't mention spam anywhere. Perhaps you need to concentrate on the task in hand.

    How do you know that?
Do you have a letter from the HR dept.?
Do you have an email from the HR dept.?
Do you have a letter from the manager?
Do you have an email from the manager?
Were you offered this pre-interview on the phone?

If you have an email and/or letter, requesting the pre-interview, you must be able to forward that to whoever you have been talking to/emailing with today.

I suspect that if you are confusing the company contact as much as you are confusing me, they simply want to get rid of you, or at least until this manager returns.

I'm not trying to knock your confidence here. But I am trying to make a constructive suggestion that you conduct yourself in a thoughtful and clear manner. If you struggle to do that, I'd suggest that before you pick up the phone, or fire off an email, you bring up all the relevant documents in different windows on your PC, and also write a short note of who you are and what you want to say. It may take time, but in the end, it can save time. Confusing people always leads to more work in the end.

This clerk in post 7 would not help me as he said he was not sure if I was just a spammer or not.

I had been dealing with the HR office until they passed me onto the department where I would be working and it was the clerk from there that said he could not help me as he did not know if I was a spammer or not.
Anyway, I have phoned this clerk and phoned the HR department and put across my concerns that they treat job applicants as possible spammers and that it is not really very disabled positive to link disabled access with Spam.

It was the HR people that have offered me a pre interview meeting with the department where I will work but the department where I want to work does not seem forthcoming other than they are not sure if I am a spammer.

They said spammer? Or did the clerk say something like I'm sorry studentphil but I personally don't have access to x, y or z to verify your identity?

He said he could not help me without any more details as he could not be sure if I was a spammer.

Which I find really insulting that you can even think a question on disabled access is even in the same league as penis enlargers.

What kind of business is this job at, Phil?

It could be that they get inundated with e-mails and faxes the way liney does. We get thousands of e-mails, faxes and web site feedback forms every day where I work, and it's not always easy to tell which are genuine, especially if they're not clearly phrased.

I think you need to calm down and stop being so touchy. You have a genuine reason for needing this information, and the employer has a genuine need to establish whether this post is appropriate for you, and whether any adjustments need to be made to facilitate you working for them. Meanwhile the normal day-to-day business of the company needs to carry on, and that may include wading through the correspondence identifying spurious enquiries.
