The pointless comments box on Just Eat

  • Is there a Comments box for delivery? (honest question) I know there's a Comments box for notes about the order, I've used it frequently to request vegetables be omitted or to remind them about free prawn crackers, and my requests have always been read and honoured.

Common sense would suggest the comments box is for any info you want to pass onto the takeaway place be it 'extra chillies please' or 'press buzzer then come up to flat 6'.

I have used this for specific food requests and also for the driver and both times it was noted so it is most probably just a case of the OP being unlucky and getting a driver/company who just don't bother reading it.

20% from each order is ridiculous, the only benefit is that justeat will do all their marketing on behalf of the takeaway in theory. I have already considered my own similar site with a lesser comission fee but it would take a hell of a lot of sales calls/visits to start getting businesses on board which I don't have the time for yet :(

Well I blame the OP when my buzzer goes I go down to meet them to collect it

Typical. Why do threads on this forum have to be tainted by self-righteous know-it-alls?

Intercoms are there for CONVENIENCE. I assume you and the other poster like to make your lives as difficult as possible so you can sit proudly on your high horse and nay-say others? What if the OP had a broken leg and couldn't walk down? What if they had a baby that started crying just as the food had been delivered?

How have I tainted the thread? and as you do not know me then labelling me as a self-righteous know it all surely makes you a self righteous know it all?

I go down to meet the delivery driver out of courtesy and also to make sure I definitely get my food.

Your comments about a baby or broken leg do not appear in the OP's post so your point here is frankly pointless. However one thing is mentioned and that is that the intercom speaker is not working. So with this in mind surely it is best to go and meet the delivery driver. If the intercom was working then it would have been CONVENIENT to ask him to pop up to said floor and drop it off.

I used to use them but I was chatting to one of the takeaway owners and he has to pay 20% of each order total to them and they keep hassling him to do special offers so he makes no money off it at all.

If this was true then they wouldn't sign up for the service. There must be some benefit or why bother?

It may not be the driver's sole fault - one of my local takeaways always has to phone me after I make an order of their 'managers special offer'. The Just Eat website asks me for a pizza topping, a side dish and a drink within the offer, but the restaurant can't see that information on their feed.

Another time I ordered food for collection but got a phonecall saying the driver was at my house, just as I was pulling up to the restaurant.

If my local takeaway can't see which flavour of pizza I've ordered or how I want it to arrive, what chance does the poor driver have of seeing a customer's comments?

The clear benefit is a lot more sales, if this means you just break even justeat won't care less as they are still collecting their 20%. The more offers you have, the more sales you will get therefore the more they take in commission.

I dont know if this is the case across the board but the more I read about it, the more I edge towards setting up my own site...

You wont be able to dislodge just eat. Other companies like hungry house have tried and I doubt they have made a dent in just eats market share.

However takeaways must make a profit out of the service as they sign up for it in droves!

I wouldn't attempt to dislodge them, getting customers on board can be done without simply getting rid of the competition. Justeat don't offer anything other than more of an online presence, that is all. A well designed website with a checkout facility for online ordering would be more beneficial for most of these takeaways and a hell of a lot cheaper in the long run!

That hungry house is a bad example, it looks like they struggle to get shops onboard.

I would imagine many takeaways will make a profit but at the same probably many that won't.

Even though I use justeat quite often, (eatitnow is good too) I never understood why these people didn't go for their own site instead. Even with a good marketing campaign, in the long run the cost will be much lower.

A local chinese was on just-eat, with their prices 10% more than their normal prices direct from them.

They then left just-eat, but came back recently. I presume because even with JE taking their share, it gives them so much more exposure. When I order a takeaway, unless I know exactly who I want to use, i go to JE, then order by rating, and these guys were often near the top. However, they dont have a website, and have never delivered a menu, so without JE, i cannot order.

It makes life so much more convenient than keeping a stack of takeaway menus that seem to go out of date the day they're printed, then ringing somebody up and hoping they got the order right. In a post just-eat world, a takeaway will be smothered by more convenient competition if they don't join in.

I've seen people say that Just Eat take £1 per meal not 20%.

I use them but it annoyed me when they upped the poor rating I gave a takeaway, also they didn't post the comment I put.

I was twice told my food was on the way, then 2 hours later after ordering they claimed I hadn't placed an one, I was then shouted at and called an f'ing liar When an order goes through the restaurant has to accept it which they did, I had an e-mail to confirm and Just Eat confirmed it had gone through. I gave more marks and a comment saying what had happened.
