I wouldnt choose either. I'd choose a reasonably spec'd android tablet. The ipad is IMHO overpriced and poor value .
My experience of the playbook is that my partner bought one. She has had it a while now. I find it incredibly illogical and difficult to use. Added to this the blackberry OS and the handcuffing to certain apps and not others and it wouldnt suit me. Thats not to say that there are others for whom it does all they need. Im just saying thati cant live with it and im glad its hers and not mine. That goes for her apple ibook lappy which she battled with and finally swapped for a tosh pc lappy.
Can you use outlook express for email on the playbook or MSN messenger..?
It's called Windows Live now. Yes, you can use it.0 -
Took the plunge and just bought one as it seems quite good and cheap, only to get home and it not work!!! Grr, I've rang blackberry support and they basically said the verion that i've just bought has had a software update but they dont know whos updated it and it isnt installed correctly on this one and thats why it wouldnt let me complete the set up, they said I could reinstall the latest software but that would take and hour to hour and half over the phone with him! Off to currys to return it and hopefully get another one that works. Blackberry said the previous version of the software did have wifi trouble and problems with start up but he wasnt aware of any with this software version which makes him think its not installed correctly.
Also took out the 3 yr warranty asked if I would get an replacement of same spec in the furture he said yes so I asked if it was only up to the price I have paid as I doubt there would be anything that price in the furture and he said no you would get a replacement regardless of price. Just read the piece of paper I got with it and it clearly says only up to the value of purchase price annoyed as I asked first so have been mis sold this.0 -
I think PC World probably provided some bad advice in Feb! (Nothing new there!) - Playbook has ALWAYS been able to access the web without a BB handset (via WiFi).
Will now run the majority of android apps - so I suspect Angry Birds will be a rather different price (free on android last time I checked!)
There certainly are some differences between the PlayBook and say an iPad - but at this price, the Playbook is just amazing value!
(Note, you can buy 'tablets' for silly money everywhere - £40 and up - but in the main, to get a "good quality tablet" with acceptable build quality and "grunt" (think iPad, Galaxy Tab, Xoom, Nexus, etc) you're looking at £200+ and thats with 8 or 16gb of flash - the PlayBook has fantastic build quality and is a genuine competitor with the other leading tablets - but at this price is just fantastic)
And now back in stock for home delivery!!0 -

Just for 'um' clarity, (as per original post), deal was noticed as I'd been keeping an eye on the currys site for the last few days - specifically on Playbooks...
Apologies if I've failed to check every other 'deals' site on the web first in case anyone had seen it sooner!

I wonder if the one i got in feb was faulty then as i tried for ages to get it to send emails etc through wifi but it wouldnt work. It kept prompting me to bridge via my bb. I am quite tech minded so it wasnt like i was a complete beginner. As it goes i liked the playbook and was gutted to return it.Trying to fix my finances whilst living with 3 kids and 2 cats! 👩🏻👧🏻👦🏻👶🏼🐱🐱

I regret being fired now. Thats annoying.“Washing one's hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral. ”

Hmm... I am a bit sceptical about this, though I'd be absolutely delighted to be proved wrong!
The cable you linked to would indeed connect a mobile broadband dongle to the Playbook. But what then? Does the Playbook O/S have the support built in to recognise the dongle as a modem? And where would you enter the necessary APN settings and intitate the connection?
I don't know but give me a few days to get the cable and I will give it a go.0 -

Been playing with it for a couple of hours now and quite impressed does everything I need music books video photos YouTube ipayer would highly recommend so far. Getting oh one tomorrow and thinking about getting my dad one but would get him a touch pen as don't think he would get on with size of the keys and he's quite old school. Thanks for posting deal0 -
Thanks OP. I am loving my playbook. I know this is the wrong place to ask, but........
Do I need any security on my playbook?
Is there any way of downloading my photos directly on to the playbook?
I have been assured there is a scrabble app but I can't find it. Does anyone know if it exists?0
