    My advice FWIW..dont touch it..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

    Why?

I know it does not have the Apps of an android unit or the fanboy kudos of the Ipad.

But is is keenly priced and relatively well spec'ed and some good reviews.
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

Perhaps you could elaborate on this? Is there a particular reason you say don't touch it?
Have never had any problems with mine.

YOu are getting much more for your money, compared to buying an ipad. It's a very good device expecially at this price.

I wouldn't worry about his advice. Especially if you already have a BlackBerry.
Think about the people who have already spent thousands upgrading their iPads from year to year.
If it suits you, consider it. If it doesn't...
  • thanks OP gone for one purely to use as a media hub for videos etc on train journeys (I already have an iPad for apps!), the instant replacement cover for 3 years at £32 is a bit of a bargain too!

As with all above, I'd love to know what you're basing such a sweeping statement on!

For some people, it's perfect and (relatively!) costs peanuts.

For others, it's not an apple device therefore must be awful...

With some nice wide middle ground in-between.

If I'm going to "pay my money and take my chances", I'd much rather risk £129 than £600 odd that it would cost for an equivalent capacity iPad!

Couple of thoughts on this :)

    1. Not true - new PlayBook (LTE) will be released later this year - hence the discounts to the current line
    2. It's a 7" tablet - so providing you don't want a 10" tablet, its comparable to other 7" models on the market.
    3. Not true - you can tether with any device that's capable of acting as a wi-fi access point (common functionality on many modern phones)
    4. With the release of OS 2.0 earlier this year, you can run the majority of android applications - greatly improving app availability.

(And no, I don't work for RIM! :) Just think the PB is a fantastic bit of kit - at this price - and when you dig a little, you can see it's a solid option - unlike the perception (as above) that it's not capable of doing many simple things) :)

    Best

    Thanks for your thoughts...

    1. So, they've changed their minds about canning it then?
    2. Yes - 7" is a small screen; IMHO a sort of no-mans land compromise between a phone and an iPad size.
    3. I meant tether to a phone as opposed to working standalone.
    4. So, the initial OS release was too early and basically they pushed out a crippled product. I'm not sure what "majority" means in real terms, but the devil is bound to be in the detail.

I just had a play on one in a shop and in all honesty it's not a bad piece of kit. The shop (Currys) had the 16 GB one at £129.

    1. Are you thinking of the HP Touchpad?? (and that looks like it is coming back!!) RIM have never said they're canning it.
    2. Each to their own :)
    3. Who doesn't have a phone these days :) Saves having to pay for a 2nd sim!
    4. Certainly they released too early - but we're going back a long way there - the product on sale today is what the Playbook 'should' be - so I'm not sure what relevance this has to someone considering a purchase today.

NB "Majority" is oft quoted as around 80% - but again, show me an android system that is in any way comparable in spec / build quality for similar money!

The curry's offer for 64GB @ £129 is online only as far as I know.
