My Microsoft Money has stopped getting prices online

Hi,
Like everyone else, I can no longer download my share prices. As we now know, this is because MS has shut down the relevant server etc. In searching for a solution, I came across the following submition by pmw39:
1. Close Money and then click Start - Run
2. Type 'regedit' (without the quotes) <enter> this opens the registry editor
3. When the registry editor opens, make sure you are at the very top of the registry entries and click on 'Computer' on the top left hand side
4. Type Ctrl-F (or click Edit - Find)
5. Type 'QuoteServerURL' (no quotes) <enter>
6. After a short wait it should find a registry entry called 'URL'
7. Right click on 'URL' and select Modify
8. Make a note of what is there in case you want to change it back later. Then overtype it with the below:
'http : // data.moneycentral.msn.com/Scripts/invisapi.dll/' (without the quotes)
9. Click OK and then exit the registry editor
10. Restart Money and try to update stock prices again. You should be back in business!
I also note the other solution that uses the HleOfxQuotes APP. It seems to me that this second option is time-consuming and difficult.
This leads me back to pmw39 solution. I know that the site provided at line 8 is no longer available but I wonder if a similar site e.g. the FT.com equivalent, may not be written into its place? This seems to me to be an easier thing to do than HleOfxQuotes APP.
My apologies if this has already been suggested but I did search the 7 pages of this thread and it seemed not to have been. I'm not a expert on computer programming either so it's quite likely I'm talking out of my .....!
Just a thought.0 -
the major time in HleOfxQuotes is setting up your funds on FT, once thats done its no problem
you can automate the running of HleOfxQuotes using AutoHotkey which makes it a one click process0 -
The issue is whether the new site that you find returns the same information in the same layout that Money is expecting. Of course, a person can read information and decipher the key points, but software will either require it in the correct order, or correctly delimited in some way that makes it obvious.
So to me, the way forward would be to have a site that gets the information from ft.com (or wherever makes it available), then reformats that information and makes it available on a new URL to Money in the format it is expecting.
The real issue is in knowing what format Money expects to receive the data in - the rest is probably quite straightforward.0 -

Just checked mine and it is already
http://data.moneycentral.msn.com/Scripts/invisapi.dll
but not working so looks like it might not be a fix any moreRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
There really does seem to be a big gap in the market for a MS Money replacement. I'm still using Money 2005 on a daily basis with 10+ years worth of data and I'd be lost without it - but I'd be willing to spend real money on an alternative that had some newer features and regular updates. For example, it would be great to have some cloud synchronisation so that I could access the same data from my mobile.0

I used to import my investments into MS money from an ft.com portfolio, however since the recent update to FT's portfolio tools my mapper is only picking up listed investments and not funds. Does anyone know how to fix this?0

* = I've tried hard but haven't figured out a way to do this yet0 -
Yes, that's the issue though. If we'd thought of it before the service was removed, it would have been possible to monitor the TCP stream and figure it out from there. An earlier poster mentioned that he had a stream that it might be possible to decode, I PM'ed him but didn't hear anything back, perhaps doesn't have notifications enabled.
Might be better to spend the time on a replacement application - by my count, there's probably at least four guaranteed sales on here.0 -
I've posted an article explaining how I now do my updates using autohotkey. Hopefully it might be useful to somebody...

Yes.
1) In the portfolio view screen on the FT website, select the 'Edit Current' button
2) Select the 'Funds' tab, and select to show 'Last Price'
3) Download the .csv file as normal
4) Edit the .csv file with Excel or similar, and change heading 'Currency of Last Price' to 'Currency for Last Price'
5) Save as .csv format and import as usual
Step 4 has to be done each time you download the .csv file0
