I think I might actually scream!

On Sunday, after checking the job centre site, I noticed that ASDA were hiring for the new store opening in our village so i applied. After going through the form and doing those ridiculous 'do you agree or disagree with these statement' type tests, as well as a numerical test of which I completed quickly and correctly, I get an email today saying i have not been successful.

This despite the fact that I've worked on checkouts before for Morrisons while i was in college (this position was for checkouts). This they could see from my previous work experience on the form.

Clearly previous experience counts for sod all! The fact that they give me no reason whatsoever for rejecting my application makes it even worse and the fact that I can't even get a job that I've done before, and done well, just makes me rage. I'm sat here in disbelief and in all honesty on the verge of tears. I'm so fed up with not working!

How the hell is unemployment supposed to be tackled when companies are more than happy to reject someone who is perfectly capable of doing the job?!

I was rejected too, and I've been both a manager and assistant manager in the past, I applied for one of the floor jobs, I look at it as their loss and have been offered a much better job in the meantime... look at it as fate and maybe something much better is just around the corner...!

Your answers to the "agree or disagree" tests may not be the same as ASDA expected.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

That's the only thing i can think of that they rejected me on (if that doesn't sound too bigheaded :S). But still it was things like 'You're willing to go the extra mile at work to help get the job done' and common sense tells you to tick 'strongly agree'. It should be straight forward but clearly it's anything but.

It's not necessarily that you're not capable of doing the job - there just may have been better people than you on the day. :)

They may have had people with far more years of checkout experience, and people who completed the tests with a higher level of compliance with their approach (the tests may seem ridiculous - particularly if you don't pass them - but they want to see how aligned to their approach to customer service you are). There may be ex-Asda employees applying who will require less training, or people who had more flexibility, or have more customer service experience. They were probably overwhelmed with applications.

I suggest you write a very polite letter back and say you were disappointed, as you're really keen to work for them, and ask them to consider you for any future roles. You never know, that may get you a job in future, or if someone pulls out.

By offering jobs, unemployment *is* being tackled - but not everyone will be successful. I'm sorry for your disappointment, though.

A couple years ago I found out a new Mr T was opening near me and had a similar thing to go through.
there was also a psychometric test thing to fill out and as the centre where they were doing 'interviews' was really busy they asked me to go home fill it in and hand it back.
Off I goes home fills it in and give it to OH to hand in on his way past, the next day.
2 days later I get the dreaded letter saying you failed the test/you are not what we are looking for at the moment/you cant have a job with us you twit.
When I showed OH the letter, he went oh sorry I forgot to hand that in:eek:
so who's test did they match up with me?
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    Zero wins 2016 😥

The ASDA online section is easier than the actual magic sessions. I've been to several just observing and ensuring we got decent colleagues for the store i was in, the amount of sections you can easily lose enough points on to fail is quite staggering. Page after page of observation sheets.

That would be all fine and well if I could find an address for them, email or otherwise. The email i got was from a 'do not reply' address and when I go on the website the only contact details are for customer service and other products, none for recruitment.

I've called customer services up anyway and the guy was very helpful, he took my details and is going to find out who's responsible for the new store and pass them on to them. I'm not holding my breath for a reply but we'll see.

I'd put money on not matching you with anyone's test. They realised they didn't have it, and instead of saying "we don't have it" (they probably thought you'd done it at the centre) they just said you'd failed to cover up what they believed was a lost paper.
