You're right, so I've changed the thread title.

Thanks for you help with this. You saved me a good deal as I was about to go for a tablet. But a new 9 cell battery should do the trick for a while at least.

There are also 12 cell 10400 mAh batteries available. Will run for up to 9 hours. Perhaps around £35.

Thanks for that information. I'll have a look for them too.

Looked on ebay and there are only a couple of 12 cells, both in Hong Kong.

Well I think on balance, weight wise that I would be ok with the 9 cell. If it will do for 5 hours then I wouldn't likely be away from an electric supply/need for that much time I reckon.

I've now updated to the latest version of Ubuntu.

Now I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to add more RAM to it as it only seems to have 512mb. Any ideas where to buy that from and what do I need?

Buying the RAM is the easiest part. Fitting it is the problem.
You have to take the machine apart. Guide here Though use a credit card or similar to remove the keyboard, rather than a screwdriver so you don't scratch the thing.
It's just a different machine with 1.5GB of RAM.

Thanks for the links to the video. I'd just found that one. I think I can do it! I'm reading that you can't add too much RAM to it as it wont support too much. So I take it that I would pull out the existing 512mb card and replace it with the 1gb, as there is only one slot in it? And, 1gb is the maximum it will support?

No. 512MB of RAM is soldered to the Motherboard, so your RAM slot will be empty.
After fitting the module you will be up to 1.5 GB.
I hated my machine running on 512MB of RAM with XP. I just refused to use it.
Now with 1.5GB of RAM, I love it. :)

Right I understand now what you mean, so I'll end up with 1.5gb of RAM, made up of 1gb on the new card I'll buy and the existing RAM wich is soldered to the machine and not remove/replaceable. I'm sure that Ubuntu will be better if I do this. It's not too bad but I notice it is taking a bit longer to load things.

It most certainly will be better. Might be worth dual booting with XP once you have upgraded.
