Many thanks for that information. That's very useful indeed.
The Model number is the same as yours, ZG5 it appears. But I'm not sure how to find out what it's running. The Firefox version it's running is 2.0.0.140 -
jelly bean is meant to be faster, also the nexus 7 has a better CPU.
The BIG downside is you are limited to the on-board storage, nowadays you can get a 64gb micro-sd for 50 quid so if you want to watch a lot of movies or keep a big music/games collection then its not a good choice.
Get Acer A110 if you that care about sd card0 -
It is VERY easy to upgrade to a ubuntu distro on your netbook.
Just back up all your data/docs etc first.
Using a live usb install xubuntu/mint lxde/ bodhi or one of the many others by using the Erase disk and install x"name of the distro"x which is generally the 1st option
Then update the install and you'll have all the latest software.
Please post if you need more info.0 -

I have installed Ubuntu on other laptops before and quite like it.0 -
Thanks. I would need more information on how to do it. I've been scanning the net and have found various Ubuntu forums and they seem to suggest that the wireless might not work etc. I'm happy to run Ubuntu on it from a memory stick if that's possible andperhaps doing that might not mess its existing setting up?
I have installed Ubuntu on other laptops before and quite like it.
As I wrote before, it is Linpus Lite.
The WiFi does work with Ubuntu, as mine is setup to dual boot with XP and Ubuntu. What might not work is the Wireless switch. But that isn't at all important.
The only thing I remember as being an issue in the past was whether the SD Card function would work with 'hot swapping'.
But in short, using Ubuntu would update everything.
Another thing is that I upgraded my RAM to 1.5GB. That really made a difference when it came to running XP.
So if you have 1GB RAM model, I would recommend installing XP and to dual boot with Ubuntu.
If you have an external CD drive, I'll talk you through how to install XP Home with SP3.
If just 512MB RAM, perhaps stick with Linux for now.
It's simple. In addition you can see there are people here more than willing to talk you through it.
But I doubt that you will need much help.
There is no benefit to you in keeping Linpus Lite. All functions work with XP and most with Ubuntu. Ubuntu also works with all of my mobile broadband USB modems.
It will just be better than it is now.0 -

Ok it appears to have only 512mb of RAM. I thought it had 1gb actually but it seems not!

You can, but why would you do that? Laziness? It would just be slow and cumbersome under normal usage..0 -
The link I gave you, makes a LiveUSB from Windows. If you use persistence (same link) you can use the usb to save docs and settings and give it a good try out until you are happy to install.0

If you are really fond of Linpus Lite, you can go to Advanced Mode in order to add/remove programs.
Also some more info on customisation here.
I love my ZG5.0 -
No I'm not specially fond of Linpus Lite. I just don't want to completely mess it up by not installing anything new properly!
Im looking at the link you provided and I think that I could possibly instal Peppermint 3 on it as an alternative to the Linpus Lite.
I managed to get it to display the Advanced Menu and within that there is listed Opera version 11. I must have downloaded it at some point in the past and so that seems ok as a browser I reckon.0
