I'm just a bit wary of wiping the existing off of it before evaluating the replacement. I quite like Ubuntu and if I knew I could successfully instal it on it, then I would be happy to do that.NiftyDigits wrote: »You can, but why would you do that? Laziness? There is really nothing to it. You need no specialist knowledge at all.
But definitely nothing wrong with evaluating it by running it from the USB drive. I thought that you meant it for a long term solution.0 -

Right then. I ran Ubuntu on it from a USB stick and it went ok, except that when I clicked on Firefox it wouldn't boot the browser. Anyway, I decided to instal it alongside the existing Linpus Lite and it works a treat, as far as I can see.
There's one slight niggle in that I'm noting that when I shut it down and then boot it up again that it wants the router code inputting each time. There must be a fix for this I guess. Though I don't mind typing it in.
So I think that I will abort the tablet purchase and stick with this a while longer and I shall take your advice and source a fresh higher powered battery for it and that should be sufficient for my portability needs.0 -

That is not an issue that I have experienced. Is it actually stored within the network settings? A single click on the little wireless icon should take you there.
What capacity is your hard drive?0 -

Yes it's not an issue I've had before with Ubuntu, but it seems persistent on this Acer. The hard drive is 120gb.NiftyDigits wrote: »That is not an issue that I have experienced. Is it actually stored within the network settings? A single click on the little wireless icon should take you there.

Have you looked here?:
When it's booted up the desktop immediately displays the "Wireless Network Authentication"box and it wants me to input the network key each time. Once I do that it logs onto the router and all's well.
If instead I go to Network Connection and the select Edit for the router, I get a box up saying:
"Unlock Keyring" In that box it says "Enter password for keyring 'Default' to unlock. An application wants access to the keyring 'Default', but it is locked.
Here I have to enter the network key and it then logs onto the router and all is ok!0 -
Oh I've fixed it now. I went into Edit Connections, selected my router and then clicked on the "wireless" tab. In the bottom right hand corner of the box is a tick box with "available to all users" written by it. The box was unticked, so I ticked it and saved it and it no longer wants me to input the network key when I boot it!0

Anyone coming to this thread looking for info on the Samsung Galaxy Tablet....

You're right, so I've changed the thread title.
Thanks for you help with this. You saved me a good deal as I was about to go for a tablet. But a new 9 cell battery should do the trick for a while at least.0
