All I'm saying is that the consensus that a €250 fee to swap the order of a name (regardless of that charge being wholly legitimate) is a reasonable charge is utterly ridiculous.

No. The admin fee for the name change was 44EUR.
The change in fare is an entirely separate fee.

They changed the order of the name - AND NOTHING ELSE - and were charged €250. The fact that Jet2 decided to give a portion of the charge a different name is neither here nor there. The ONLY change they made was to the order of their name, so that is what they were charged for.

FOR THE LAST TIME - I am not saying there is anything wrong with making them pay the charges, I am merely saying they are a rip off. If you don't think they are a rip off, then you are either exceedingly rich or a moron. I fail to see how you can be neither of those things yet think €250 is a fair price to swap your first and last names around on a computer system...
  • Well it goes without saying from me, but I do agree with Callums posts, some people must be extremely rich on here!
Just to clarify, I do accept my error (although can't understand how on earth I managed to get the surname and forename incorrect?) I do accept that had I checked my confirmation e mail more closely I would have probably just had to accept the admin fee. What I cannot and never will accept is that this is not ripping someone of for what is clear to anyone with an ounce of sense or justice, that this was just an admin error. €212 for an admin error is just plain ripping off the consumer. I even received the email confirming my changes had been made while I was on the phone, so I reckon less than a minutes work for the €212!
Fair, ethical, justified, sensible, none of the aforementioned.
Cynical, hidden in the small print, out of proportion and unreasonable, in my opinion most definite.

Yes I've learnt a lesson and do not shy away from some mistakes, I just wish I had been as wise as some of the posters on here......

You both seem to be struggling with the concept of the increase in fare component of the overall charge. The admin fee is a mere 44EUR - the reason has been explained twice in this thread.

Besides, you cannot be being ripped off if you are paying for something which you agreed to when you bought the tickets.

I am not struggling with the concept at all... There is ZERO need to have a fare-increase component on a straight-forward name change, so for all intent and purpose, it is part of the name-change fee.

And as I've explained (probably twice as well), you'd have to be a moron to think someone bought a ticket then sold it on to someone else who has a surname identical to your wifes first name, and first name identical to your wifes surname. Not that I was disputing the validity of the charge at all. As I've said in every single post, it's perfectly valid.

Yes you most certainly can... Do you live in your own private world where you never interact with normal people? My mum doesn't really shop around - let's say she bought a TV for £999 that has a standard price of £499 everywhere else. Despite agreeing with the purchase price at the time, any normal person would describe that price as a rip off. The shop hasn't done anything wrong as such, but that price would clearly constitute a rip off. Ditto in this scenario.

Quite possibly, if you had checked your confirmation closely and timely you might have got away with the change for free.

Did you actually explain to Jet2 what the mistake was - that you'd put your surname as your partner's first name?
Or did you just ask for the name to be changed?
Are you going to accept it or see if Jet2 will be a bit more amenable?

Not that I think it makes any sense... If Jet2 decided to start charging €1000 per bag for all luggage - would you defend that as "it's just an airline charge - it can't possibly be unreasonable because they charge more than it costs them for other stuff as well"?

Of course it's just an airline charge and it's up to passengers if they want to pay it. At €1000 per bag I doubt many would.

Sorry, I don't think I have any insightful thoughts on the difference.
