  • I'm already a Scottish Power customer and phoned today to switch to online saver 3 and was told about another new tarriff - Price fall. Was told it was their cheapest tarriff and whilst it won't apply to my accout until May, my account will be backdated with the Price fall prices. (Difficult to compare tarriffs as one has a standing charge and one hasn't but the figures look good!):j
  • I have also just changed to online energy saver 3. I had considered switching completely, as advised by Martin, but do not believe the savings are as good as the switch sites say. My best option according to these sites was Utilita. I read the Utilita threads to see that was not a good idea. Second best was British Gas and I think that too is not a good idea with their customer service history. Third was npower. They are okay but have their disadvantages and now the figures are working out closer to just staying with Scottish Power.

Several calculations include many assumptions that may not apply such as an annual loyalty bonus (I may not stay with a supplier that long). Also after my last switch I tried the switch sites again to find they were showing cheaper suppliers for my circumstances! So they always seem to show cheaper suppliers even if you have just switched to the cheapest!

As has been said Scottish Power need to make a positive decrease in prices to alleviate customers concerns. The online energy saver 3 reduces gas prices at a time when people are using less gas but maintains the electricity price.

Will wait and see if the new 'Price Fall' tariff will appear later as a new option too.
  • bill888,

The following is a direct quote from an email I have just received from Scottish Power:

"Currently the option for On-Line energy Saver 3 is shown on our site as
option On-Line Energy Saver, this does put you onto version 3."

    So it is the same.

Thanks for clarifying 'Online Energy Saver' is the same as 'Online Energy Saver 3'.

fwiw, I've been looking at the new 'Price Fall' tariff and it looks like a better deal (for me). 20% off gas and 4.7% off elec compared to last summer's Online Energy tariff for Seeboard region.

Just got off the phone with ScotPower, they advise me existing SP customers will be able to switch to the new Price Fall tariff from the 9th May which is when the tariff officially begins - that is when it will appear as an option under 'Change My Service' too. They did offer to put my account onto the list to be switched to the new Price Fall tariff automatically on the 9th but I declined for now.

I queried why their published literature quotes 9th April, and she said the price list was apparently for new customers looking to switch to SP, and that it usually takes a month to switch suppliers.
