I emailed Scottish Power today (“That I will be moving if I don’t get some info about their price reduction announcements”) and got an email back telling me they had moved me from “Online Energy saver 2” to “Online Energy Save 3” but could not yet give a date for an announcement.

    I then called them to get them to work our exactly which should be cheaper (because the email said “…. The average saving is £123….” of OES3 over OES2. However, I have my actual annualised usage in Kwh for Gas and Elec so to make it simple I wanted them to give me the bottom line figure, it went like this;

Gas 4332kwh & Electric 15347kwh (these are below the average) and the result was
A saving of £33 using the Online Saver 3 option (over the Online Saver 2, which is now not available as it has been replaced by OES 3) which they said gave me an annual bill of £741
Including all the discounts available to either account OES2 or OES 3
(direct debit, online account management and duel fuel)

When I put these annualised kwh figures into https://www.uswitch.com and https://www.simplyswitch.com
They both came out with the answer given by Scottish Power’s call centre (59% favourable user rating on Uswitch) of around £741 which is only £8 off Powergen of £733 (48% favourable user rating on Uswitch).

Now, bearing in mind Scottish Power have not yet announced their pricing structure which should reflect the drop in energy prices as per other suppliers announcements (and Martins comment in his recent email 11 Apr 07 “….reckon EDF and Scottish Power, the only two providers yet to announce price cuts, have expensive supply contracts and will take time to drop prices……”) I suppose the moral of the story is if you are already with Scottish Power and not on Online Saver 3 get on it and wait to see what the price reductions will be when the announcement is made because there does not seem to be any difference in the prices from the top 3 cheapest suppliers in our area (southern) when all the discounts are applied. (In my case anyway with these figures above) I will be staying with Scottish Power because I have not had any issues with their call centres or online facilities which seems to bear out the ratings on Uswitch!

Yes I think scottish power are playing a little bit of a financial game with their customers......
They are going to upset a lot of them if they dont get a move on and reduce their prices PDQ
Wholesale energy prices have dropped nearly 60% for goodness sake!!!!!!!!!!

But they have announced a new cheaper tariff - energy saver 3.

Do a price comparison on a switch site for dual fuel and it should show up.

The point though mervyn11, is that they do seem to be price wise, in the top 3 cheapest!
Powergen, British Gas then Scottish Power; but they have yet to announce a price reduction!

I am on the capped price and i have just done a comparison on USwitch.
EDF were the nearest to bettering my current price plan although i would have been worse off by £27.
Scottish power next with the new Online Energy Saver 3 Dual Fuel, i would be £49.30 worse off with this price plan.

I emailed Scottish power at 5.07pm as i could not remember when my capped price ended, amazingly they replied 11 minutes later, excellent service.

    This is what they said
    Thank you for your email.

Having investigated into your account I can confirm that you are on the online capped price version H and your prices are protected until the 30/09/07.

I would also like to take this opportunity to assure our customers that we are committed to continually review our prices to ensure we are competitive. We are currently reviewing our options given the changes happening in the marketplace. We will advise customers of any price decreases.

Sounds interesting.......I was on Original 15 quid on Original

might seem a silly question are they supposed to pay the 15.00 annual discount as a lump sum discount after 12 months or do they spread it out quarterly

They credit it daily so it appears on every bill.

uve compared with 2 comparison sites, try https://www.moneysupermarket.com i found they gave different results than uswitch i presume cos moneysupermarket factor in npowers price decreases that dont come into effect until 300407, im with scottish power, money supermarket showed that for me npower was the cheapest ( from 300407) british gas about 5.00 a year behind, im going with british gas because in order to get npowers cheapest price you have to be with npower for 12 months ( 85% approx of discount is not paid until 12 months are up) money supermarket are also giving 30.00 cashback if both fuels are switched through the site

Interesting! Earlier in the week I contacted SP as my capped online deal was due to end on May 1st. They had offered me a new capped deal but I said I wanted the energy saver 3 deal instead as it was a better deal. I was told it was only available for new customers. I pointed out that even with the energy 3 saver deal they were no longer price competitive and that I would have to move suppliers. They then offered the energy saver 3 deal which I have accepted in the short term as I have been very pleased with SP's good service. I am considering moving to British Gas if SP don't come up with reduced prices soon.

Are they now offering the energy saver 3 tariffs to existing customers without their having to threaten to move suppliers?

    I'm with Scot Power too.

I have phoned and mailed them over last fortnight and Yes, they are offering Online energy saver 3 to existing customers if you ask for it. They told me as an existing Online Energy customer, there will not be an option in the 'Change My Service' menu, to allow me to switch to the new Online Energy Saver 3 tariff. They advise to telephone or email them and they would happily make the change.

The latest email I received from them last week indicates they are reviewing their prices, but gives no hint when they plan to implement any changes.

I too am thinking of switching to BGas Click Energy 2 but the saving is minimal compared to the new OES3 tariff, and I'm concerned about BGas's billing/direct debiting/account issues. ie. poor customer service.

I've had no trouble in the past emailing SP to alter my monthly direct debited amount if I felt it was too high or too low provided I was in credit. But I read this may not be so easy to do with BGas.

Only gripe I have and it's not really SP's fault, is I cannot download a PDF version of my SP bill on my computer ever since I upgraded to the new Internet Explorer 7 installed.
