Orange 'Free' Broadband
Comments

I think their only aim at the moment is to tie people in, but its a bit too much of a coincidence to me that they will be launching EE Broadband soon, or their fiber service. I've got a feeling if i get bent over a barrel any more to sign i'll be annoyed twice this year by these turn of events.0

Perhaps ADSL is closing & all non discounted Orange customers are tried to be forced to EE Fibre with line rental is the plan ?
I have no doubt those on Orange Broadband currently excluding FREE, £5 Broadband Unlimited & Liveboxes will be moved to EE Fibre at the current agreed rate till the broadband minimum term contract completes.
Where as to carry second Livebox accounts, FREE & £5 Unlimited to EE Fibre is not cost effective...
Why do ADSL when high speed communications is what the EE brand is all about.
Livebox 2 will probably appear from France renamed with a EE logo following the French format, France Telecom line rental aS Orange Line Rental with Fibre and a second line with chargable bundles....
Who knows ? its all a massive mess to be honest ! Well done Orange UK !! AGAIN, lol they are getting as bad as their regulator Ofcom....SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
I suspect that a lot of viewers posting here are labouring under a misunderstanding.
Orange do not want £14pm to continue your broadband, they want £14pm to get your land line. This is far worse !
Personally, I am under contract with my landline, so I incur heavy penalties if I move. Secondly, who is to say that once Orange have your landline under contract, and you are held captive, they will then impose rapacious charges for the broadband ? What is their track record ?
Orange have proved that they are an amoral bunch of spivs, and I would recommend that FREE BROADBAND users bite the bullet and go elsewhere. We know, and they know, that the FREE BROADBAND FOR LIFE was mis-sold, they only have to speak with the sales staff, and the Area Managers who were beating them with the FREE BROADBAND sales stick.
Who remembers the media storm in 1992 over Hoover's FREE flights to America offer, sold with a new washing machine ? That news story even has its own Wikipedia page !
In years to come, will we be reading about Oranges's disastrous FREE BROADBAND offer ? I suspect that this faux pas will also become polemic.
My advice would be to leave Orange now, and then delight in the media frenzy that this calamitous decision will inevitably bring. If Orange's executives truly believe that they can get away with treating their customers in this manner, then perhaps Monty Python's parrot isn't dead after all !0 -
My biggest pet hate in life is making a decision when i only have half of the information required to make it.
This situation is the same... the launch of a new service creating more competition in the market place is a month or so away but i am being asked to commit to a 12 or 18 month contract or lose my internet a month early.
Kind of a bit like signing up for the old iphone on the 10th of September... but having my arm twisted around my back for good measure.
I know no matter what i do it can never end well.0 -
Totally agree Watchdog!
I for one will NOT hand my land line over to Orange; the company has no integrity.
Yes, we have all been mis-sold:
The law says that a service provider or shop must not try to sell you a contract which is misleading in any way.
If your written contract does not match the terms you agreed with the sales staff when you bought the service, you may have been mis-sold the contract.
You should make a formal complaint to your service provider. You can ask that the terms of your contract be changed to match what the sales person said. If they do not resolve your complaint satisfactorily, you can report them to the Office of Fair Trading.
If your service provider has a term in your contract which says they disown statements made by sales staff, that would be un unfair contract term.
If the statement made by the sales person is false and it influenced your decision to buy the service, this is called misrepresentation. If this is the case, you can cancel your contract without charges and may be able to take legal action for compensation. A false statement which influenced your decision to enter into a contract is also an example of an unfair commercial practice. This is a criminal offence.

Surely that is good indication of the number of people interested/affected by this subject?
I too have now contacted BBC Watchdog.0 -
Just a thought, but wouldn't it be absolutely awful if further on down the line, it turned out that the people who took the line rental offer for free BB were first in line for super and exclusive upgrade deals to 4g mobiles or indeed any fibre-optic BB that Orange/EE may be planning?0

You're right, of course, and thanks for the extra star0 -
Some may think it awful; I for one will not.
The 'free' BB they are currently 'offering is not FREE at all.
If I want to retain the same services I currently have but switch my line rental to Orange, it will cost me £18.50 pm.......that 'offer' is freely advertised with various incentives to anyone, at £18.50pm which includes1/2 price BB, £5.00pm, to Orange customers or new ones taking a mobile contract.
As for 4G, not interested......will mean a new handset and yet ANOTHER tie in, plus my current contract is until March 2014
Once bitten twice shy0 -
You really think that Orange would keep line rental at £14pm.
Orange will hike prices as & when to pay for 4g and Ofcon will back them every time!0
