02 offered me phone or money back for being loyal?

For about 4 years i've been on a sim only contract with 02 at £20 a month. Today i got a phone call saying because i had been loyal to them i could either get some cash back or get a free phone. I was out when she called and my phone was dying so she said she would call back on monday so i couldn't get a ton of specifics.
I was just wondering if anyone else was offered this? Just seems odd to me that i'm being offered a phone on a sim only contract. Any one had the same experience? Obviously if it's not a way to get more money from me then its a great deal but i thought i'd get a few opinions first!

If you still have the number they called you from in your call log look it up on whocallsme and see who it is listed to
It's not just about the money

I would imagine it's legitimate, but they would tie you into a longer than 30 day contract in return :)

I've been with O2 for 8-10 years and have never been called up.

I normally haggle a deal via retentions around a month to my minimum term expiring, so maybe you could try them.

I tend to either get a new handset or a credit against future bills for agreeing a new minimum term tariff agreement.

If it's legit we would have heard about it before.

O2 don't offer to reward loyalty!
  • Yep, I'm with O2 and after my contract expires they always offer me a new phone or a sim only contract which works out really cheap. Bear in mind that you'll be signing up for another 18/24 months with them so make sure it's what you want.

Are you saying they always ring you to make these offers?

(Contracts don't expire, then run on till you want to cancel them, and that is usually when they come up with something to try and get you to stay!)
  • Thanks for your replies. She's calling back on Monday so i'll let you know how it goes!

    How did you get on?
Was the caller definitely from o2?

I was just going to ask that!
